       License and Certification Qualifications: Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration certification preferred.Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field required.Experience Qualifications: Two years experience in designing, building, and supporting Microsoft SQL Server databases in the Windows environment required. Experience in supporting mission critical enterprise software applications preferred.Skills Qualifications: Extensive skills in database design, development, and management; ability to resolve database related problems with minimal supervision; ability to communicate with internal and external customers in an effective and tactful manner; ability to work as part of a team; and ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools.Primary Responsibilities: Ensure that all assigned databases are designed and maintained to maximize utilization, monitored for peak performance, and secured with proper data security applied and database backups performed.1. Generate and maintain assigned databases.a. Gather database requirements and work with software developers to define database requirements for a given software application.b. Organize the data into database structures and create database tables and indexes.c. Modify database changes and upgrades as needed.d. Modify database tables and indexes needed as a result of user application changes and apply database software upgrades provided by the vendor.e. Forecast database requirements and work with software developers to understand the anticipated volume of data growth and increase table sizes accordingly.f. Perform database monitoring and tuning.g. Utilize database administration tools to monitor performance.2. Maintain integrity of assigned databases in multi-terabyte environments.a. Maintain high availability architectures.b. Monitor file transactions and volumes. c. Maintain transaction logs.d. Develop and maintain security system for data access and grant access to other software systems.e. Develop and maintain all database backup/disaster recovery procedures.f. Develop and maintain data transfer procedures between the database and other platforms.3. Assist technical staff in fielding user problems dealing with systems and applications and determine needed course of action.a. Work daily with the software application developers and operational staff in a professional manner.b. Work well with users in developmental as well as crisis situations.c. Assist application developers in troubleshooting and tuning applications.4. Maintain and administer database tools.5. Provide technical expertise of assigned databases.a. Maintain a high degree of technical competence in database administration, system analysis, and programming. b. Maintain an awareness of emerging technology and its relationship and impact to the database.c. Maintain a working knowledge of multiple platforms such as Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems.d. Maintain a working knowledge of vendor supplied software/utilities pertinent to the database and application programming development.e. Make use of vendor supplied technical manuals and online help systems.6. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk.
