Senior Accountant

Subsidiary: Colas Western Canada Inc.

The Senior Accountant – Equipment will assist the General Manager Equipment with the financial reporting requirements and overall management of the financial transactions relating to the Equipment Activity.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $95000–$105000 CAD per year. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise team of 3 accountants/clerks/admins to achieve the KPI of function.

  • Manage financial transactions of all Fixed Assets from initial purchase to disposal including management of IFRS and other Capital requirements.

  • Manage the Master setups of all equipment requiring a unit number including utilization rates in both JDE and Heavy Job.

  • Setup and transact Depreciation for fixed assets in accordance with Colas Policies. Provide forecasting of the same to assist with budget preparations.

  • Responsible for all financial transactions related to the Equipment and Shop business units to ensure proper coding and allocation. Review all related transaction to ensure consistent coding as per financial reporting, internal controls and review needs.

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budgets along with preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements and other reporting as needed.

  • Process insurance transactions as it relates to equipment including payment and reconciliation.

  • Ensure all utilization hours are posted and reconcile hour meters against actuals to ensure all hours are captured accurately.

  • Reconcile and post minimum utilization hours for non-metered equipment as directed by the Equipment Manager.

  • Ensure financial transactions related to equipment repairs are allocated and coded correctly to subsidiary .40 along with required unit number to ensure accurate costing.

  • Record transactions, reconcile and manage process for inventory of the Equipment activity including fuel and parts.

  • Ad hoc duties assigned by the Controller

    Experience and Knowledge Required for the Role:

  • CPA or working towards CPA designation.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an accountancy and should have Minimum 3 years of experience as a Senior Accountant or a similar role ideally within the construction industry.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with strong attention to detail.
