Our Team Advanced Engineering Lab. (AEL) is an engineering group at HATCI that focuses on advanced technology research and development that can be applied to current/future production vehicles and future mobility. AEL covers a wide range of areas from the development of new vehicle concepts to CAE and vehicle energy analysis and management. The Position HATCI is currently seeking a Senior Engineering Manager - EV Battery System Research and Development (BSD) for our Superior Township, MI facility (near Ann Arbor). The BSD is an Engineering Department within AEL, which was recently established to undertake projects related to EV high voltage Battery system research and development. This position reports to the Director of AEL. Core Responsibilities Establish and build department's resources, capabilities, and a project portfolio for production vehicle and new technology development. Understand and follow group's business model, strategic direction, purpose, and mission and continually communicate them with direct reports. Set up department's goals and objectives aligned with group's direction, and drive execution, engagement, and results to accomplish them. Develop and manage department's plan, strategy, and budget allocation & usage. Assign tasks and evaluate performance of direct reports. Work with the Director to participate in group's resource planning, goal setting, and technology road map creation. Facilitate inter-team collaboration and knowledge sharing through transparent communication. Produce and deliver executive presentations on key project milestones and achievements. Remain current with new technology and competitive products as a means to drive innovation. Provide technical guidance and support for EV battery system related concerns for both pre-production and post-production issues. Lead and oversee engineering projects related to: Development or identification of new technologies, strategies, and methods for high voltage battery system of current and future Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis production hybrid and battery electric vehicles Support of North American electric vehicle plant including localized production parts verification and technical support Local response to EV quality issues in NA such as quality data acquisition, root cause analysis, improvement verification Feasibility analysis of new battery system technologies through simulation, lab tests, and on-road evaluations Introduction of selected battery technologies to current or next gen productions through active communications with Korean R&D Headquarter production programs. Research activities with external partners including national labs, universities, and tech suppliers. Investigation of industry trend in the area through benchmarking competitors' systems & vehicles, application of the information to development directions and performance target settings Industry trend investigation, publication of technical papers and reports internally/externally.
