General Counsel’s Organization

Under the general supervision of Counsel, the paralegal’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide support to the Senior Paralegal and Counsel in responding to legal orders.

  • Decision and respond to legal orders issued by federal agencies, state and local agencies and private attorneys or pro se litigants.

  • Analyze legal orders for validity issues, objections and promptly escalate the same to the Senior Paralegal for review.

  • Electronically deliver fulfillment records to issuers using technology enhancements or secure email or US mail when required.

  • Ensure official fulfillment records are uploaded case management system or shared drive.

  • Escalate third party legal orders to the Senior Paralegal for review that meet the legal review/escalation procedure.

  • Be responsible for the quality and accuracy of the fulfillment records.

  • Work with Counsel on large, complex or highly confidential subpoena productions

  • Validate that escalated third party legal orders meet requirements of federal and state RFPA privacy laws prior to release of records.

  • Directly contact issuers of legal orders via phone or email to negotiate for extensions as required.

  • Research court dockets and contact Clerks of the Courts to resolve questions regarding subpoena validity or subpoena issuance.

  • Provide regular updates on the progress of assigned matters to Counsel.

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Provide regular or rotating support on quality reviews and fulfillment tasks for other colleagues and other assigned duties and responsibilities as required.

  • Identify and promptly escalate legal or operational risk events to Counsel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in legal studies or criminal Justice or a related field or paralegal certification.

  • At least 2-3 years as a litigation, regulatory or government Paralegal/ Legal Assistant in a law firm or with a government agency.

  • Experience working with attorneys and managing litigation dockets and attorney calendars.

  • Experience in the preparation of responses to discovery and/or regulatory requests.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and critical thinking skills.

  • Experience specifically understanding and interpreting legal order requests.

  • Experience and understanding of litigation and/or regulatory processes that permits substantive paralegal and attorney interaction.

  • Ability to discern urgent and/or critical matters based on content of relevant legal Order.

  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite.

  • Able to work independently and as a team player.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Organized, ability to prioritize and keep of track of and calendar deadlines.

  • Able to quickly train on, navigate, and extract information from a variety of databases and information platforms.

  • Able to work productively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

  • Able to analyze and problem solve.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually bonus benefits
