Google Product Safety Test Engineer, Cloud Platforms in Sunnyvale, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.

  • 1 year of experience working in product safety or equivalent experience with Information Technology Equipment or an advanced degree.

  • Experience with product delivery lifecycles and networking principles.

  • Experience with test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, hi-pot testers, electronic loads, data acquisition units), and using UNIX/Linux.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).

  • Experience with networking principles (e.g., TCP/IP, Physical and network layers of OSI Model, SSH, Telnet).

  • Experience working within a team environment.

  • Experience setting up, obtaining, and maintaining industry standards lab accreditation, with the ability to write test scripts.

  • Ability to execute efficiently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills with attention to detail.

As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

With your technical expertise, you lead projects in multiple areas of expertise (i.e., engineering domains or systems) within a data center facility, including construction and equipment installation/troubleshooting/debugging with vendors.

As a Safety Test Engineer, you will work with hardware testing and design teams, other product safety engineers, and suppliers to understand project architectures. You will conduct safety testing to extract data to validate all safety goals are met in accordance with standards and specifications. In this role, you will use safety, electrical, networking, mechanical, and software fundamentals to test various Information Technology Equipment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000-$150,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Prepare, exercise, and configure equipment under test and record test data in accordance with industry standards.

  • Analyze test data, perform calculations, and prepare documentation.

  • Maintain in-house test labs and product technical files.

  • Oversee Safety Lab test equipment and fixtures by assuring all equipment is operational and calibrations are current.

  • Support testing at third-party test labs.
