HealthFitness Fitness Program Coordinator in Sunnyvale, California

In this role, you'll assist with the development, planning, coordination, marketing, and implementation of the on-site fitness programs ensuring the highest level of participation and customer satisfaction. You'll teach group exercise classes weekly and provide personal training, fitness testing, exercise prescription, orientations, and fitness floor coverage. You will also assist with planning, and implementing any events or recreation leagues onsite. Other duties as-needed/assigned.

  • Assists in the daily supervision and administration of the fitness facility: Interacts with fitness center staff and participants to ensure smooth operation at the front desk and in the fitness center. Aids in ensuring safe, clean and properly functioning fitness center. Maintains the HFC and Employee Connection Policies, Operations, and Standards binders to be site specific. Aids in ensuring that procedures are documented and carried out properly.

  • Assists in daily supervision and administration of fitness program: Interacts with fitness center participants to ensure that exercise programs are carried out in a safe manner. Provides fitness floor and facilities supervision.

  • Oversees proper upkeep of membership database, including updates, and participant files. Provides training for the staff on proper use of the system. Coordinates department paying memberships including Contractors and sponsored guest payments.

  • Monitors and tracks participation in assigned wellness activities including group exercise, HFC Health Improvement Programs (HIP) and events. Generates monthly metrics and reports showing membership and usage, sports program. Prepares and submits all reports and financials pertaining to Health Improvement Programs to HFC, as well as generating year end summaries and membership reports. Enters applicable screening data into the HFC Outcomes database.

  • Ensures (involved in) the design, coordination, implementation and evaluation of site wellness programs: Recommends new approaches to Program Manager. Assists in identifying client company employees’ wellness needs and health risks. Plans and implements wellness programs focused on areas of greatest risk to employees and greatest cost to client company; employs a variety of communication and health promotion techniques to facilitate behavior change for participants at each stage of the behavior change process; provides prevention and wellness counseling; Develops and distributes health education and promotional materials such as flyers, table tents and electronic media messages and blogs.

  • Works with Program Manager to promote group classes: Recommends ways to encourage greater class participation and maintain interest in the group exercise program; Maintains records of class attendance: Keeps records on the number of classes offered, participation numbers, participants’ recommendations and feedback. Submits metrics monthly or as needed.

  • Coordinate and supervise Internship program: Responds to potential University interns, assist with placement on interns in the Bay Area and supervises 3 interns annually at the site. Conducts intern interviews and provides on-going training of accepted interns.

  • Teaches group exercise classes: Choreographs routines; selects appropriate music for classes; ensures aerobics class format and sequencing complies with HFC guidelines; leads group class sessions weekly subs for classes as needed.

  • Conducts fitness assessments and recommends exercise programs: Evaluates cardiorespiratory and muscle conditioning of participants; develops recommended exercise programs; instructs participants on proper execution of exercise program; re-tests participants and updates exercise programs.

  • Member appointments (e.g. fitness testing, orientation, pre/post testing, HIP Program assessments and personal training appointments.)

  • Updates and assists with maintaining the Employee Connection Website. Additional marketing including monthly member newsletter email, blogs, bulletin boards additional communication materials consistent with HFC standards.

  • General cleaning: On a daily and weekly basis, cleans designated exercise equipment, wipes counters, returns materials used by participants (e.g. magazines) to their proper place; reports any mechanical failures to Program Manager. Maintains contact with Fitguard care and additional after hour maintenance. Helps with the inventory of cleaning and locker room supplies.

  • Participates in HFC monthly trainings, conference calls and HFC pilot program development teams as requested.

  • Carries out other projects and duties as assigned by Program Manager, including sports programs and Monthly Management reports.

What you bring with you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Kinesiology or related discipline required plus 2 years experience.

  • Current Adult CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety & Health Institute required by start date.

  • Industry recognized Group Exercise certification from ACE, AFAA/NASM, ACSM, NCCPT, or NETA required.

  • Personal Training certification from an industry recognized and HealthFitness approved provider required.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills including the ability to motivate others.

  • Proficiency in fitness assessment and exercise prescription.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of team with enthusiasm, initiative and creativity.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including at minimum Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands.

Compensation: $20.00-25.75 per hour. Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications. Eligible to make 60% commission on Personal Training sessions in addition to hourly rate.
