Akima Technical Writer III in Suffolk, Virginia

Overview

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) has an opening for a part-time Technical Writer to support the U.S. Coast Guard Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, and Intelligence Service Center (C5ISC) in Portsmouth, VA. This position under the C5ISC Engineering Services Division Sensors Electronics Branch (ESD-SEB) will provide remote technical writing services for the Nationwide Automatic Identification System (NAIS). Responsibilities

  • The Technical Writer will revise or write standardized material for reports, manuals, related technical publications, and administrative publications regarding NAIS support operations.

  • In addition, the Technical Writer will revise any recommendations of changes to the current NAIS documentation dependent upon the approval of the USCG.

  • Work with NAIS personnel, both Government and Contractors, in the preparation of deliverable documentation identified within the scope of work or as directed by the COR.

  • Use available blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to assist in the preparation and delivery of required documentation.

  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set USCG standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, and must maintain records and files of work and revisions, select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to ensure documentation is in line with current USCG and NAIS policies and procedures.

  • Assist in laying out material for publication, arrange for typing, duplication, and distribution of material.

  • Specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.

  • Adhere to the USCG standard documenting procedures and formats. Deviations will be approved by the COR when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in technical writing from an accredited institution and four (4) years of experience in technical writing, or completion of a DoD/USCG technical "A" school and six (6) years of experience in technical writing is required.

  • Able to obtain a Public Trust.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools and applications.

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Experience working U.S. Coast Guard C5I services preferred.

Posted Salary Range

$37.23/hr
