What is an R&D Engineer?

An R&D Engineer will execute Engineering work in support of (1) development of new products, (2) design, manufacture, and improvement of existing products, and (3) regulatory activities, by using sound Design and Engineering practices.

 

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and be proficient with both 2D and 3D CAD systems. Good understanding of mechanical concepts and usage (including design for molding, casting, machining, welding, and assembly). Basic knowledge and ability to apply engineering calculations, as well as analytical and product development tools (e.g. FMEA, DOE, tolerance stack-ups, Design for Six Sigma, Root Cause Corrective Action, etc.)

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintain a proficient knowledge of Clark Reliance products.
  2. Maintain proficient knowledge of standards and how they are integrated into Clark Reliance products; includes explosion proof and intrinsic safety protection methods.
  3. Support Program Management and Stage Gate process from concept through launch.
  4. Own specific areas of technical expertise in support of technical lead of Major project types; technical lead for Runner and Minor project types.
  5. Utilize research data, proposed product specifications, and engineering principles to aid in the design of products, such as: fluid handling devices, valves, pressure vessels, equipment, machinery, and associated components and subsystems.
  6. Apply engineering calculations and analysis tools.
  7. Develop bills of material, drawings, and documentation to include part numbers, design criteria, and assembly diagrams.
  8. Work with manufacturing, purchasing, and sales on selecting materials and processes.
  9. Develop, analyze, and evaluate technical systems; includes designing tests, analyzing results, and writing test report summaries.
  10. Prepare design reviews for product verification prior to manufacturing release.
  11. Root cause analysis and problem solving.
  12. Effectively convey information on new/updated products to involved parties.
  13. Exemplify Clark Reliance values in everyday tasks and interactions.
  14. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

     

      

Required Experience and Education

Bachelor of Science in Engineering required. • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred  • Proficient with both 2D and 3D CAD systems • Good understanding of mechanical concepts and usage (including design for molding, casting, machining, welding, and assembly) • Basic knowledge and ability to apply engineering calculations, as well as analytical and product development tools (e.g. FMEA, DOE, tolerance stack-ups, Design for Six Sigma, Root Cause Corrective Action, etc.) • Familiarity with NPD stage gate process • Understanding of ASME code desired • Proficient in MS Office products with the ability to utilize and apply basic spreadsheets and analytical techniques • Solid interpersonal skills with listening, consultative, and problem-solving skills • Self-directed with ability to prioritize and work with minimal supervision • Ability to apply product knowledge and experience to make sound decisions • Ability to function and thrive in a tea
