Research Support Specialist

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and/or other comparable majors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with synthetic organic, analytical chemistry and/or biochemistry. Experience with high-pressure liquid chromatography. Experience with gas chromatography. Experience with thin layer chromatography (TLC), SPE methods. Experience with gamma counting and/or multichannel analyzers (MCA). Experience with handling radioactivity and/or fundamental understanding of ionizing radiation. Experience with computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office, Google Apps, etc.).

Brief Description of Duties:

The Research Support Specialist will assist in the cGMP production of radiopharmaceuticals for clinical research at SBU and their ex vivo radio metabolite analysis. The RSS will follow SOPs for QA/QC using HPLC, GC and other equipment, follow SOPs to produce clinical cGMP grade human use radiopharmaceuticals, assist in the design and implementation of a Quality Management System, conduct ex vivo radio metabolite analysis, assist the new radiopharmaceutical production development and production protocol verification, maintain laboratory’s clean environment with some general housekeeping, as well as support routine laboratory supplies ordering.

The incumbent must possess the ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines, as well as good written and oral communication skills. The incumbent must possess the ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities.

Duties:

  • Work with production chemist to conduct routine radiochemistry lab work.

  • Assist the new radiotracer production development and production protocol verification.

  • Conduct Plasma metabolite analysis.

  • Assist to generate tracer production batch records and fill radiometabolite analysis report.

  • Maintain lab environment and hygiene.

  • Report and update Lab stocking supplies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
