Description

Our adult outpatient psychiatry service is expanding and we are looking for clinical psychologists who welcome the challenge and satisfaction of providing behavioral health care to a diverse population in collaboration with a motivated group of clinicians, researchers and educators. Our psychologists provide clinical services and contribute to research and other academic activities such as teaching and providing supervision.

The Clinical Assistant Professor has the opportunity to serve in our outpatient clinic located in Putnam Hall on the South Campus of Stony Brook University, or in our Commack Office, located within Advanced Specialty Care on Commack Road or as part of our growing integrated psychiatry program that delivers behavioral health care within multiple primary care settings.

The outpatient program provides therapy services in close collaboration with medication management to patients with a wide range of diagnoses. The ability to work within the Adult Outpatient Division includes providing individual therapy, group therapy, and intake evaluations to patients.

We are seeking generalist clinicians to work within the Adult Outpatient Division to provide psychological evaluations, individual and group therapy, and consultations to patients in an ambulatory outpatient psychiatry clinic in collaboration with psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and case managers. The therapy services provided cater to individuals with a variety of presenting concerns ranging from short-term goal oriented/solution focused treatments to evidence-based practices for more chronic mental health presentations/concerns.

The teaching component includes teaching and supervision of psychology externs, interns, postdoc fellows, as well as medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows. There are also opportunities for clinical research involving psychiatric inpatient and outpatient treatment.

Responsibilities include direct patient care (at least 90% effort), including diagnostic evaluations, individual and group psychotherapy, and research/academic activities (up to 10% effort).

FLEXIBLE Full-Time schedule totaling forty hours per week, including the possibility of evening hours; 50-100% of appointments/work via telehealth.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
PhD/PsyD (or foreign equivalent) in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program or PCSAS-accredited program. Experience in evidence-based treatment modalities. New York State Clinical Psychologist license or eligibility. Must have passed EPPP for licensure eligibility and will complete all post-doctoral clinical hours prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical experience and/or training in treating complex mental health issues, including but not limited to: Schizophrenia/Psychotic Disorders, adults with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, Personality Disorders, Treatment Resistant Depression, Geriatric Mood Disorders and/or complex PTSD.
  • Clinical experience with time-limited goal-oriented therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy and short-term psychodynamic/relational and attachment-based therapies.
  • Mental Health interventions in an adult outpatient behavioral health program; an integrated primary care program, or a consultation and liaison program.
  • Clinical experience with motivational interviewing.
  • A track record of research and therapy teaching.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Supervisory experience.
