The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook Postdoctoral Associate/Sr Postdoctoral Associate- Fracture Mechanics in Stony Brook, New York

Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Materials Science or a closely related discipline in hand by June 2025.

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering with experience in Fundamental Materials Science understanding of the fracture mechanics and creep of materials. Demonstrated experimental ability in the areas of uniaxial and/or multiaxial tensile testing. Demonstrated ability in the area of uniaxial creep testing and fracture surface analysis.

Brief Description of Duties:

The postdoctoral or research scientist position will focus on the measurement and fracture mechanics description of high-temperature failure and creep of refractory alloys such as vanadium and tungsten, as well as ultra-high temperature carbide ceramics. Specific scientific duties and responsibilities include:

Independent testing within fracture mechanics laboratory.

Fracture surface analysis and interpretation of failure

Fundamental understanding of materials science principles underlying fracture mechanics and creep. Applying this understanding to materials systems under study. Effective communication in scientific literature.

Maintaining a fracture and creep laboratory. Responsible for maintaining equipment and laboratory to ensure safe conduct of research.

Other duties as assigned.

Senior Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Will have a completed Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent in Materials Science or a closely related discipline and three years of research experience in fracture mechanics modeling and testing.

Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering with experience in Fundamental Materials Science understanding of the fracture mechanics and creep of materials. Demonstrated experimental ability in the areas of uniaxial and/or multiaxial tensile testing. Demonstrated ability in the area of uniaxial creep testing and fracture surface analysis.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
