Stony Brook University Facility Operations Assistant 1 (Utilities) in Stony Brook, New York
Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, which may include bending, lifting, stretching, climbing ladders and being able to work in small spaces. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Brief Description of Duties: The Facility Operations Assistant 1 will support the Plant Utilities Engineers in the East Campus Power Plant.
- Cleaning of power plant. Cleans and wipes down equipment.
- Assists in the overhauling and repairing of boiler, chillers and /or other plant equipment.
- Assists repair crew and watch personnel with the operation of plant equipment.
- Assists Plant Utilities Engineers and Plant Utilities Assistants by performing specific tasks as directed in performing maintenance repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment, steam and water lines and other equipment.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Ability to follow directions from senior personnel and work well with peers and subordinates.
- Wears all personal protective equipment issued.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Lubricate machinery in the boiler, chiller, pump and mechanical equipment rooms according to schedule.
- Participates in in-service training courses in the fundamentals of plant engineering and related courses, and receives on-the-job training.
- Participates with Plant Utilities Engineers or Plant Utilities Assistants by performing specific tasks as directed in operating stationary equipment including heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment to learn operating procedures.
- May perform some of the tasks described for Plant Utilities Assistants under direction while learning and perfecting skills.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 6 Hiring Rate $35,177 per year plus location pay of $3,400 per year.
