Your Opportunity
In your role as Business Development Leader you will lead the business development and client management for our fast-growing industrial practice in the Ontario market, meeting the water supply and wastewater treatment needs for our clients in Mining, Pulp & Paper, Food & Beverage, Power, Energy, and Manufacturing. As a Senior Process Engineer you will be an integral part of the Water team managing and delivering projects to our industrial and municipal clients both in Ontario and across North America.
This position encompasses our Win, Do, and Manage approach to how we operate our business. Your role would involve leading the business development aspects of consulting (Win) in Ontario while working with a dedicated team to delivering projects (Do) and managing those projects (Manage) as it relates to the Industrial Water Sector, as described below. The role is expected to based in our Toronto office.
Your Key Responsibilities
The following are the foundational tasks that are expected of this role:
Win: Support Business Development
Set the vision and lead the development and execution of a client-focused strategic growth plan for our Industrial Water business in Ontario.
Be client-facing, focused on listening to client needs and developing cost-effective, innovative solutions, with sensitivity to the sustainability of our global environment.
Support the identification of market trends to enable early positioning.
Actively maintain your opportunities in the pursuit “Pipeline” so that records are current.
Actively participate in pursuit decisions including Go/No-Go processes, and in proposal and pricing development. Coordinate with Stantec’s marketing team, regional sector leadership, and local technical staff to develop winning proposals.
Create and maintain relationships across Stantec’s practices and geographies to promote cross-selling of services.
Support our participation in regional and national industry groups to advance the Stantec brand and maximize exposure of Stantec’s subject matter experts through activities such as:
- Presentations
- Articles for association conference periodicals
- Peer-reviewed publications
- Blogs for associations
- Committee participation where available and appropriate
Engage and develop relationships with key industry partners that can help advance Stantec’s position in the marketplace.
Do: Lead Project Delivery
Support successful delivery of technical design services for water and wastewater facility projects. This includes services under alternative delivery models (such as design build) and construction-phase services.
Provide technical support and expertise to identify, evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project, and perform a variety of tasks which may include inspection, troubleshooting, calculations, design sketches and concepts, estimating, calculating savings, report preparation and field inspections.
Provide independent and quality reviews for peers on other proposals or project deliverables within your technical subject matter expertise.
Leverage Stantec resources to ensure successful technical execution of high-quality work products.
Manage: Lead, Mentor, and Develop
Act as a client service lead and/or project manager for projects in your areas of specialized experience.
Provide project management on projects including communication, financial and schedule tracking as well as development of related interim plans to address challenges. Projects assigned may be broad, varied and diverse in scope. You will analyze proposed projects to ensure safety, reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Make sound decisions for Stantec’s staff, business interests, and clients, consistent with our core values.
Support developing the careers of younger, and peer-level professionals by providing opportunities for growth and development.
Support Stantec’s H2O+U initiative to hire water professionals in support of our strategic plan by identifying and networking with other Water professionals.
Consistently demonstrate a commitment to the Health and Safety culture within Stantec.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Proven business development and client relationship management experience
Proven technical skills applicable to delivering or supporting Industrial Water projects
Has a technical foundation in the design and construction of water/wastewater treatment engineering design technologies and water/wastewater characterization (industrial)
Understands typical industrial water needs and wastewater sources, including tailings treatment, mine water process, high salinity brine processing, reuse, internal service water, boilers, cooling water, high purity, etc.
Understands typical phases of project delivery, client procurement procedures, and typical industrial water regulatory approval processes
Experience in, or developing skills in Project Management for delivering Industrial Water projects
Experience in managing client expectations and engineering budgets
Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines
Works in a team environment without direct supervision
Proficient writer and communicator
Understand the capabilities and purpose of other modeling software, such as Fathom, OLI, HYSYS, and Aspen plus.
Holds a valid drivers’ license
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Process, Chemical, Mechanical, Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution
Licensed Professional Engineer
Minimum of 10 years of process engineering experience
Minimum of 5 years technical business development or sales experience in consulting or another relevant role
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining seated for long periods of time.
