Cytiva’s Membrane Chromatography R&D team in Stevenage is looking for an experienced senior mechanical engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing solutions, supporting colleagues and guiding technicians in the development of Cytiva’s next generation membrane chromatography products. Through a combination of practical design approaches and computational analysis, the team’s core remit involves developing the hardware and supporting the industrialization of multiple membrane chromatography devices, to optimize the bioprocessing performance of Cytiva’s new and evolving range of Fibro chromatography products.

What you'll do

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will take the technical lead on the hardware development, being responsible for reviewing and approving technical data from concept development through to product launch. You will also be expected interface with the wider project team and stakeholders to manage the project's needs and timelines. Additional, mentoring of junior staff and supporting colleagues in their technical development and being a subject matter expert in mechanical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Taking the technical leadership of hardware development programmes, helping the team deliver against stakeholder and project objectives.

  • Supporting colleagues in the application and development of their skills and experience both within the engineering team and across other groups.

  • Taking a lead when interacting within project teams, managing timelines and milestones.

  • Managing packages of work, including collaborating with colleagues, contractors and suppliers.

  • Reviewing and creating design documentation, including engineering drawings, technical specifications, verification plans/protocols and reports.

Who are you

  • Significant experience in product development within a regulated industry.

  • Proven track record in the design and development of robust, reliable, innovative products or devices, from concept to production.

  • Detailed design and analysis of components, mechanisms and assemblies including moulding and sheet metal manufacture.

  • Knowledge and experience of a board range of manufacturing processes and control.

  • Experienced in managing timelines, milestones and stakeholders.

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent suitable engineering experience.

Desirable

  • CAE (FEA, CFD, dynamics/math modelling, data analysis)

  • Track record of mentoring/people development

  • Experience in systems engineering including design, definition and testing of systems and sub-systems

  • Experience in managing the industrialisation of products and assembly processes within clean room environments

  • Good understanding of chromatography, membrane filtration and/or bioprocessing

  • Experience in reactor design and/or process engineering

  • Application and understanding of key industrial standards and regulations

  • Proficient in Creo and/or Solidworks
