Position Status:Full Time

FLSA Status:Non-Exempt

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

CHASI’s Food Pantry Supply Support Specialist is essential for delivering services to the communities we serve and plays a vital role in CHASI's operations by facilitating the collection of donations, maintaining donor relationships, ensuring vehicle reliability, managing inventory, and upholding food safety standards. Their efforts contribute to the organization's ability to provide essential services to the communities we serve. The Pantry Supply Support Specialist is responsible for picking up all donations from each scheduled location on time and maintaining healthy relationships with our donors. The Supply Support Specialist is required to manage stock and inventory at the community access center and contribute to the ongoing cleanliness and organization of the Community Access Center.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Donation Pick-Up:Responsible for picking up donations from scheduled locations promptly. This involves following a schedule and ensuring that all donated items are collected efficiently.

  • Maintaining Relationships:Building and maintaining healthy relationships with donors is essential. This involves fostering positive communication and showing gratitude to donors for their contributions. Strong donor relations can lead to ongoing support and donations.

  • Vehicle Maintenance:Ensuring that the vehicle used for transportation is in optimum operational condition is critical for the success of donation pick-ups. Regular vehicle maintenance, such as checking oil, brakes, tires, and other components, is essential to prevent breakdowns and delays. Work with CHASI’s Facilities team to address any vehicle issues immediately.

  • Stock and Inventory Management:Responsible for managing stock and inventory at the community access center. This includes keeping track of food and other supplies, ensuring that items are properly stored, and replenishing stock as needed to meet the demand of the community.

  • Food Safety:Maintaining food safety standards is paramount. The Supply Specialist Driver should inspect donated items for quality and safety, immediately discarding any spoiled or potentially hazardous food items. This is crucial to ensure that only safe and healthy food is distributed to the community.

  • Warehouse Maintenance:Keeping all areas of the warehouse free from potentially hazardous items is part of the role. This includes regular inspections, cleaning, and organization to prevent contamination and maintain a safe environment for food storage and distribution.

  • Backup for Mobile Food Pantry:Serving as a back up for the Mobile Food Pantry driver as needed.

  • Perform all functions in alignment with CHASI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 1 year of demonstrated work experience with inventory review, customer service, and/or maintenance preferred.

  • Must have a clean driver’s license with minimum 3 years driving.

  • Must be able to drive a 15’ truck.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs regularly.

  • Customer service experience preferred; driver must be able to interact with diverse groups of colleagues and clients in a positive and cooperative manner at all times.

  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record (driver’s license background check required)

  • Must have a flexible schedule
