The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 24 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. JOB PURPOSE:

Stanford University’s Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve (JRBP) is in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about five miles southwest of the main campus. The preserve encompasses remarkable geologic, topographic, and biotic diversity within its 483 hectares (1,193 acres) and provides a natural laboratory for researchers from all over the world, educational experiences to students and docent-led visitors, and refuge to native plants and animals. Due to its unique outdoor setting five miles south of campus, JRBP hosts more than 4000 educational person visits and more than 700 educational events a year in the Sun Field Station and in the 1200 acres rich in California ecosystems.

Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve (JRBP) is seeking a program manager who, is efficient at multi-tasking, has excellent people skills, is self-motivated, works well independently, is familiar with Stanford procedures and protocols, strong administrative skills, appreciates open space and natural lands and builds and nurtures community in outdoor learning spaces. The program manager will support the Executive Director in JRBP duties and Faculty Director in Biology Department duties. They will be involved in leading and managing administrative and finance duties, and events. Because events sometimes occur on weekends or evenings, there will be some flexibility in the ASA’s work hours. Organizing tours may include hiking on the preserve’s trails.

Additional duties include:

● Work with the Executive Director to develop the yearly budget, project costs, and take care of data entry, bill payments, etc. related to the yearly budget cycle;

● Assist with budgeting, grant preparation and reporting, and keeping a diverse set of projects on schedule;

● Independently ensuring adequate financial reporting (such as entering expenses in Oracle and reconciliations);

● Developing and monitoring efficient protocols for and managing our small library, mailing list, community database, equipment, iSpace;

● Work with JRBP staff with specific tasks as needed, assist with onboarding administrative personnel and student helpers and volunteers;

● Maintain calendars and schedules and additional routine edits and changes to our web page (news items, announcements, minor updates, etc.);

● Contribute and help with strategic planning and related implementation.

This is a 100% FTE, continuing, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.

CORE DUTIES:

● Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.

● Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.

● Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.

● Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.

● Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences.

● May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.

● May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS*:

● Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.

● Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.

● Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.
