The Research Fellows Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business is a two-year predoctoral program that provides a set of fellows with the opportunity to gain research experience and preparation for doctoral studies in business or related fields. Reporting to the Assistant Dean, PhD Program, the team seeks a Director of Operations for the Research Fellow Program. The Director of Operations will oversee all aspects of the program’s administration including hiring, programming, outreach, finance, onboarding and offboarding. The Director also provides direct advice and counseling to fellows on a broad range of issues including, but not limited to, faculty/student issues, career plans, community standards, etc. in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.

The Research Fellows Program serves approximately 40% of the faculty at the GSB. In this role, you will play an important role in the research ecosystem at Stanford GSB, and will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the research environment at the school.

Your primary responsibilities* include:

  • Manage the administration, operations and evaluation of the Research Fellows Program life cycle including hiring/admitting, programming, onboarding/offboarding, fellows’ training and development.

  • Serve as subject matter expert on pre-docs at the GSB. Oversee the interpretation, implementation and compliance with university and GSB policies and regulations.

  • Recommend actions and/or resolve complex issues -- involving faculty, fellows, senior leadership - that often span organizational boundaries.

  • Provide direct advice and counseling to fellows on a broad range of issues.

  • Provide development of programs or functions -- within and beyond the Research Fellows Program - such as the Visiting Student Researchers Program, IDDEAS program, etc.

  • Ensure that program operations and systems are efficient and records and data are accurate.

  • Develop and manage program outreach strategy that includes relationship development with key Universities and partner organizations.

  • Working closely with the GSB Finance Office, develop and oversee finances and program budget for the Research Fellows fellowship and program operations.

  • Recommend and execute marketing and communications strategies including managing the external website, intranet site, and other communication channels.

  • Supervise staff as needed.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.

  • Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.

  • Relevant subject matter expertise.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • Functional experience in program management and change management.

  • Experience working with students and faculty.

  • Some familiarity with data analytics and/or academic research.

  • Exercise critical thinking, tact and diplomacy, professionalism, and good judgment in all interactions.

The expected pay range for this position is $131,000 to $175,000 per year.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs
