The California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC), housed at Stanford University School of Medicine, seeks a Data Analyst to join its Maternal Data Center (MDC) team.CMQCC’s mission is to end preventable morbidity, mortality, and racial disparities in California maternity care. We transform maternity care in California by providing rapid cycle data, quality improvement tools, and strategies for clinicians to improve perinatal outcomes. Among this set of tools is the MDC—a web application that provides quality metrics and resources to participating hospitals and hospital staff. CMQCC is looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds to become part of the MDC team; the successful candidate will be trained on the MDC web application.

TheData Analyst 1 willworkunder minimal supervision, perform complex technical work associated with a wide variety of analytical data, and produce routine information requests.This position is located at the Palo Alto campus with the option to work from a hybrid schedule. Reporting to the Associate Director, Maternal Data Center, the position will be responsible for interpreting, monitoring, analyzing, and presenting information related to clinical care missions of the Department. Collaboration with other data specialists, statisticians, clinical leads, program managers, and the Associate Director will be crucial for the success of this position. S/he will also perform project and analytical work that will ensure the uniformity, accuracy, and consistency of data through the application of effective data management. Duties include:

  • Identify and select usable data from subtle and complex data patterns. Assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information.

  • Design methods to validate data to ensure high quality product. Explore creative approach to using data based on technical expertise of available data. Distribute reports to applicable agencies, researchers, management and other internal end-users and provide interpretation of data when needed.

  • Develop and produce dashboards, key performance indicators, and other recognized metrics used to monitor and report organizational performance. Collect and analyze metric data.

  • Collect, manage and clean datasets using an extraction and reporting programming language to ensure data integrity.

  • Research and reconcile data discrepancies occurring among various information systems and reports.

  • Collaborate with data managers to define and implement data standards and common data elements for data collection.

  • Identify new data sources and methods to improve data collection, analysis, and reporting.

  • May test prototype software and participate in the approval and release process for new software.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is between $62,200 to $96,471 based on commensurate experience and background.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in and strong passion for using data to assist in quality improvement and answering hard questions with data.

  • Advanced proficiency with the CMQCC Maternal Data Center (MDC) software and other data tools such as Tableau and R/Python or Stata statistical tools/models.

  • Experience with forecasting, trend analysis, and predictive modeling using available data sets.

  • Ability to learn new subject areas quickly.

  • Flexibility to operate in a small, growing, and rapidly changing organization.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.

  • Ability to independently exercise sound judgment and know when to seek assistance as appropriate.

  • Ability to use data retrieval and manipulation tools such as SQL, Business Objects, etc. in conjunction with visual data tools to clearly present data to non-technical audiences.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Basic knowledge and demonstrated experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software.

  • Ability to collect data using various methods, such as data mining and hardcopy or electronic documentation study, to improve or expand databases.

  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible, and rigorous attention to detail.

  • Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question.

  • Ability to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner meeting user requirements.

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

  • Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.

  • Rarely stand, walk, reach or work above shoulders and use a telephone.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
