We are looking for:
Research Scientist
This separation scientist position includes responsibility for carrying out analyses on various samples for research and customer driven projects in both the Polymer Additives and Mining business lines.
The position will focus on analytical techniques in Separation science with a focus on ion chromatography and size exclusion chromatography. Routine gas and liquid chromatography analysis will also be required.
Separations based analyses: The separation scientist will work with an experienced analytical team to execute identification and/or quantitation of molecules in complex mixtures.
Examples include quantitation of additive mixtures in polyolefin, as well as identification of the major reaction products versus the impurities during the synthesis process. The scientist will perform
analyses using liquid and gas chromatography (LC and GC) with a variety of detectors including
UV-Vis, CAD and Mass Spectrometry.
The scientist will write well-documented reports and communicate clearly with project teams and scientists. The role will require extensive interactions with research and development, process development, plants, technical services and other members of the analytical department.
We count on you for:
The analyst will provide chromatography analysis of small molecules and polymers.
Techniques for larger oligomers/polymers include: size exclusion chromatography.
Techniques for small molecules include: Ion chromatography (IC), liquid chromatography (LC), ultra-high pressure LC (UPLC), gas chromatography (GC), LC/GC combined with high-resolution mass spectrometry (MS).
Effective oral and written communication skills. Document work in electronic notebooks, reports and communicate with customers and colleagues. Results should be well-organized, written and communicated clearly in a timely manner with project teams and scientists.
Manage daily laboratory activities including instrument maintenance, housekeeping and chemical waste.
Safety:
Understand and follow key Syensqo safety policies and procedures for the site, including but not limited to the following:
Emergency Response / Evacuation Guidelines Visitor Safety Policy
Housekeeping – 5S organization of laboratories
Demonstrate a commitment to safety
Attend monthly safety training
Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation.
Obtain equipment or process specific safety training as necessary according to the specific hazards
You will bring:
A Ph.D. in Analytical or Organic Chemistry with a strong research and coursework emphasis in separation mechanism, column chemistry and structural characterization using mass spectrometry.
A master’s degree with experience will also be considered
Prior experience in analytical separation techniques and mass spectroscopy is required:
LC/MS, GC/MS, HPLC, GC, IC, SEC and sample preparation methodologies. Strong Mass
Spectroscopy experience is preferred.
Excellent instrument skills including instrument maintenance and repair by in-house diagnostic efforts
Knowledge of characterization techniques named above and familiarity with other analytical techniques: NMR, IR, etc.
The abilities to work well in technical workgroups, write well-documented reports, and communicate clearly are required.

You will get:
The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $90,880 to $113,600 per year.
Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range.
Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
