Functional Description:

DDG is hiring Adjunct Faculty to support the United States Naval Community College (USNCC) and the Colleges Naval Studies Certificate program. DDG is soliciting experienced educators with military experience/background to support the NAV 102, Modern Naval History course of the certificate program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • All courses are non-residential, distributed course delivered virtually via USNCC Blackboard LMS. Each course is eight (8) weeks of coursework (3 semester hour equivalent) taught in a fully online, asynchronous format with a maximum class size of (22) students. Faculty contact hours will include up to 2 hours per week for scheduled office hours for student consultation conducted through the USNCC LMS.
  • USNCC provides a standard syllabus including instructional materials, core lectures, assignments, and threaded discussion topics for faculty facilitation of threaded student discussions with students and guidance of student research, project development and writing relevant to the course.
  • Faculty will assess student performance on a weekly basis grading assignment quality and timeliness; and tracking overall student progress, course effectiveness, and any areas of concern on student success in their section(s). Faculty will provide robust written feedback using standards, assessment tools (rubrics), and Blackboard-generated reports.

Required Experience:

  • Prior illustrative teaching experience with Introductory courses in U.S. history, military history, strategy, defense policy, and security studies.
  • Experience with online Learning Management Systems (LMS), i.e., Blackboard or similar LMS.

Desired Experience:

  • Prior online teaching experience with adult working students, ideally U.S. military students.
  • Prior military experience, preferably uniformed or civilian service in the Department of the Navy (U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps), or U.S. Coast Guard. Exceptions possible for teaching experience in U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) service academies and staff colleges (e.g., U.S. Naval Academy, Command and Staff, War College, Senior Enlisted Academy) DoD civilian experience in policy, research, or operations.
