In partnership with the Production Manager to provide direction for Operation activities. Ensures department objectives are achieved per plan. Team orientated, goal-driven leader to provide guidance to the meat/fish production group to meet overall division goals while maintaining high quality standards and exceptional customer service.

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday: 6:30 AM - until work is completed

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures meat/fish cutters are trained properly in maximizing cut yield for each part of the animal and all species. Ensures cut yields are measured regularly and are in line with profitability matrix.

  • Assigns work in the Production Room for same-day or future orders, organizes cutting tickets to ensure raw material is prepped and available for swift and timely completion and product flow through packaging is maximized.

  • Ensures first in first out meat/fish rotation from the Cooler and Freezer for all species.

  • Ensures that the correct meat/fish is being cut for the customers, to the customer specifications and pars are being adhered to and met.

  • Works with buyers to ensure adequate inventory to meet production needs and helps forecast future needs. "Sets up" 2nd shift, if applicable, for seamless shift transition according to known daily customer requirements through close communication with 2nd shift Supervisor.

  • Work with Sales and Purchasing to plan future order production and Inventory requirements.

  • Work with Food Safety & Quality Assurance to maintain good manufacturing practices, meet HACCP and OSHA requirements and maintain all USDA standards.

  • Actively participate in accident or injury incidents, including near misses

  • Supports strategic business needs within the plant to drive operations knowledge and improvements.

  • As requested, provide food safety training and/or resources to ensure employees know how to handle food safely and attend trainings

  • Comply with food safety practices and all applicable requirements as they pertain to SQF and that are maintained

  • Ensure employees are informed and held accountable for their food safety and regulatory responsibilities

  • Ensure employees are positively encouraged and required to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues

  • Support continuous improvement efforts

  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION :

This incumbent is required to provide direct supervision for Meat/Fish Cutters or Production associates.

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Internal : Management, Warehouse, Production and Purchasing. The incumbent is required to interact with employees at all levels of responsibility throughout the company in a professional manner

  • External : Customers, Vendors; The incumbent is required to interact with customers and vendors in a professional manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work environment is cool and wet with temperatures ranging from 34 to 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Must be able to work for periods of time in freezer 10° F to – 10° F degrees with company provided apparel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years of experience managing/leading an hourly workforce required.

  • 2 years of food production experience (meat, poultry or seafood) required.

  • Experience with meat/fish cutting pertaining to portion control techniques, production processes and yield analysis preferred.

Related Experience/Requirements:

  • 2 Years or production experience required, with a minimum of 1 year experience leading plant operations program preferred.

  • Prior experience supervising staff is required.

  • Results oriented, strong attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize activities in a multi-tasked environment required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :

Advanced analytical skills, an ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines, prioritize work and produce results. Proactive, good at problem solving, good oral/written communication skills, effectively transmit knowledge. Good organization skills. Committed to high standards of ethics and integrity. Ability to motivate and energize people to achieve desired results. Strong understanding of financial reports and cutting yield mathematics. Willingness and desire to perform above industry standards to achieve and exceed expected results. Experience supervising a production team. Strong skills in process improvement, measurement of output, production goals set to improve productivity. Strong computer skills including Microsoft office. Must be flexible to work modified shifts to support the division’s needs while adhering to company manufacturing requirements and safety regulations.

Education/Training :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or equivalent experience preferred

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is primarily asked to stand and walk. Must be able to lift and carry

75lbs, push, pull, step, climb, stoop, squat, kneel and bend frequently. Comfortable grasping objects, walking and standing continuously. Must be able to multi-task in a fast paced, noisy environment. Some specific jobs within operation may require lifting to 45 pounds.
