Job Description:

At L3Harris Flight Data Services, we provide an outsourced Flight Data Monitoring service to aircraft operators worldwide. It is important to deliver insights to customers in a presentable and timely manner, enabling them to take action to reduce costs and improve safety to save lives.

L3Harris Flight Data Services has the largest flight data monitoring platform in the world; the R&D team supports & develops capabilities and ad-hoc analysis for this platform. As a Lead Developer, you will coach and mentor team members, undertake software development tasks, prioritise tasks in line with our strategy, and deliver safety solutions on-time to our customers. You will foster innovation while working in a high-performance agile team that delivers value. You will communicate and work closely with team members ensuring code quality, design fidelity and expertise is shared.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborating closely with senior stakeholders to understand business requirements and effectively translate them into technical requirements for the development team.

  • Collaborating with Tech Leads on planning and documenting comprehensive technical specifications for features or system design, ensuring a clear roadmap for development and implementation.

  • Designing, building, and configuring applications to meet business process and application requirements, leveraging your technical expertise and problem-solving skills.

  • Directing the development team in all aspects of the software development life cycle, including design, development, coding, testing, and debugging, to deliver high-quality solutions.

  • Writing testable, scalable, and efficient code, leading by example, and setting coding standards for the team.

  • Conducting code reviews and providing constructive feedback to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.

  • Mentoring and guiding junior team members, fostering their professional growth, and encouraging the adoption of industry best practices.

  • Ensuring that software quality standards are met by enforcing code standards, conducting rigorous testing, and implementing continuous improvement processes.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals and deliver effective and impactful software applications.

  • Performing line management for a development team.

  • Setting performance goals for team members.

  • Conducting 1:1 meetings.

  • Performing mid and end-of-year reviews.

  • Staying updated with the latest technologies and industry trends, continuously enhancing technical skills, and driving innovation within the development team.

    Qualifications:

  • Proven success as a technical team leader.

  • Experience of coaching and mentoring other Developers.

  • Ability to manage customer expectations and project deadlines.

  • Subject matter expert in your field of expertise.

  • A mature, proactive, and responsible approach to work, with initiative and problem-solving capability.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Expertise in Python programming.

  • Expertise in the Django Python framework.

  • Expertise in at least one other Python framework such as numpy or pandas.

  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery.

  • A very good understanding of databases and SQL.

  • Experience with cloud technologies would be beneficial.

  • Use of Git or similar version control systems.

  • Working within Docker / Kubernetes environments.

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience .

  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of database architectures and modern BI tooling

  • Knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS preferred)

  • Working knowledge of ML models and their applications
