This position also performs installation, maintenance, and repairs of electrical equipment, apparatus and equipment for security, communication, lighting, heating and power at the St. Peter campus of the Minnesota Sex Offender Program and Forensic Mental Health Program. Examples of this include but are not limited to, high voltage switch gears, transformers, secondary sub-panels, alarm and signal circuits, standby generators and laundry/kitchen equipment for the facility. The position carries out these responsibilities as a member of service-oriented division of the facility which supports a therapeutic environment which is safe for clients, staff and visitors.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain a Class-A Master’s Electrical License or Class-A Journeyman License from the Board of Electricity

  • Review specifications, blueprints and plans to ensure work meets code.

  • Prepare and maintain proper work-related documentation and logs.

  • Report daily, weekly and monthly progress of electrical projects.

  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical wiring systems and fixtures such as outlets, switches, breaker panels, boiler controls, and lighting fixtures to make repairs to electrical equipment and appliances such as washers, dryers, dishwashers, CRAC units, electric motors, etc.

  • Maintaining electronic security, communication and energy management systems including, but not limited to, security cameras, metal detectors, perimeter security systems, telephones, intercoms, and two-way radios so the facility operates smoothly and safely.

  • Maintaining and repairing hand and power tools to ensure their safe, efficient use which includes inspecting their physical condition, repairing or replacing parts on power equipment and maintaining an inventory of electrical supplies for immediate repair projects.

  • Instruct and monitor the electrical work of less skilled employees and clients

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed with the Minnesota State Board of Electricity as Class-A Journeyman.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Must be skilled in using hand and power tools sufficient to install, alter, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment in state buildings.

Possess knowledge of:

  • Construction plans, blueprints and electrical specifications sufficient to interpret, modify and follow them to complete the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment

  • Possess knowledge of State and National Electrical Codes and National Electrical Safety Code and standard electrical practices, techniques, materials and tools sufficient to ensure that work and materials comply with codes and to select supplies, materials and work methods and apply them to electrical projects

  • Electrical tools and equipment, safety standards and procedures sufficient to perform work efficiently and safely

  • Four years of practical experience under journeyman and four years (6 hours a week) of classroom electrical theory are needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed with the Minnesota State Board of Electricity as Class-A Master Electrician.

Experience working with Archibus and Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge of shop math sufficient to estimate labor and material costs for planned projects.

Previous experience performing similar work in a hospital or secured facility.

Physical Requirements

Physical health and endurance sufficient to lift at least 50 lbs.
