Join our team in the Longitudinal Follow-Up (LFU) unit in the Children & Youth with Special Health Needs Section to assist in conducting longitudinal surveillance activities for Newborn Screening (NBS) conditions including congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV), critical congenital heart disease (CCHD), heritable conditions (HC), and hearing loss. Longitudinal surveillance is necessary to advance public health understanding of NBS outcomes, describe illness and sequelae, identify risk factors, better understand barriers to care, and identify potential areas for interventions to support families.

In this role you will assist LFU staff in data collection by requesting and abstracting medical charts and through structured phone interviews. This position will be responsible for data entry and for assisting in data cleaning, data management, and data analysis activities.

This is a hybrid telework position that will require occasional in-person meetings in the downtown St. Paul office location and Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. This position is part-time and will work 20 hours per week. The specific hours and days of work are flexible Monday - Friday. This position is anticipated to last until 9/1/2026 or until the selected candidate completes their educational program.

To be eligible for appointment as a student worker you must be enrolled in a post-secondary, graduate, or doctoral program. You will be asked to complete an Education Verification form prior to employment.

The successful candidate, under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations, must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H1B sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a postsecondary or graduate program with a minimum of two years of coursework completed.

  • Strong attention to detail; ability to focus on all areas of tasks and responsibilities, producing accurate, high-quality work.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with co-workers, supervisors and health care professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently employed or enrolled in an MPS, MS, or PhD program in epidemiology, maternal and child health, environmental health, or related public health or nursing/medical field.

  • Career goals in public health field - maternal and child health, epidemiology, or related field.

  • Experience calling/talking with members of the public, or other customer service experience.
