Help play an important role in the health of Minnesotan Women. The Cancer Control & Prevention/Sage Programs Section of the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease (HPCD) division seeks a State Program Administrator Technical Specialist to serve as a Medical Records and Billing Administrator. This role is key in supporting work related to screening women for cancer and heart health through the Sage Programs, enables other section staff to follow-up on abnormal screenings, connect women to needed treatment, and link women to needed Lifestyle Change Programs.

Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and submit medical provider billing claims into data system, respond to and investigate billing inquiries, and process billing remittances.

  • Review and process medical data submissions into the Sage Integrated Database.

  • Coordinate data entry services for Sage and Comprehensive Cancer Section programs.

This position is 40% office based. Position location is the Minnesota Department of Health office in St. Paul, MN. Telework schedules will be based on the business needs of the unit and supervisory discretion.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience performing health care administrative support in electronic records or medical billing systems. Experience must include two of the following:

  • Explanation of benefits (EOB).

  • Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes.

  • Electronic medical claim and remittance files.

Knowledge, skill and abilities to be assessed at interview:

  • Human relations skills sufficient to interact with persons making inquiries and to establish effective communication and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Knowledge of health disparities and health equity in Minnesota.

  • Ability to utilize and maintain organized systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology utilized by the Sage Programs related to breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening, and cardiovascular risk reduction.

  • Experience processing and managing exceptions related to program eligibility, verifying screening data, and adjudication of medical claims.

  • Experience learning and navigating patient and billing databases.

  • Experience working with patient confidentiality and secure records.

  • Experience with methods and procedures for transmission of patient health and billing data for computer processing and utilization.

Additional Requirements

  • This position requires successful completion of a background check.

  • The successful candidate under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.
