About The Position

The Engineer performs annual studies working collaboratively with Division Engineering, Design, Construction, Operating and Maintenance workgroups to identify, justify and initiate projects for optimum electric sub-transmission system development, and provides various technical support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform computer modeling techniques to complete power flow, fault level, reliability, and power quality assessments for Ameren’s electric sub-transmission system.

  • Perform system studies throughout the year to assess electric sub-transmission system status to identify the optimum size, configuration and timing of necessary system upgradesto increase capacity and improve operating flexibility.Create and maintain Planning documents for assigned area of the Missouri sub-transmission system, including load projections and equipment ratings.

  • Develop documentation for Distribution Operations which serves as a knowledge base for responding to various contingency conditions on the electric sub-transmission system during yearly summer and winter peak times.

  • Develop conceptual project alternatives for electrical distribution facility upgrades, collaborate with other workgroups to reach consensus, and create substation and sub-transmission line one lines to communicate scope for projects.

  • Submit sub-transmission system upgrade projects through the Oracle Project Portfolio Management tool (OPPM).

  • Perform studies to evaluate available capacity for potential customers working with Economic Development team as needed.

  • Work closely with engineering teams and Key Accounts as industrial/commercial customers request expansion or relocation.

  • Provide capacitor and transformer de-energized tap changer settings as needed for optimal voltage regulation.

  • Provide support to Distribution Operations during major storms and peak load periods, and in response to specific contingency conditions including the impact of planned facility outages.

  • Collaborate with internal customers in Division Engineering, Distribution Operations, Substation Maintenance, System Protection, and Transmission Planning as needed to develop long-range plans for assigned area of the Missouri sub-transmission system.

  • Perform peer reviews of Planning deliverables to ensure quality and consistency. Participate in the restoration of electric service during major storm response efforts by serving in a support role, such as a Damage Assessor or Coordinator to perform site assessment duties.

  • Participate in research activities and special assignments as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university is required, preferably with an emphasis in power. Professional Engineer License, or an active commitment to obtain one, is preferred. Three or more years power system analysis or related fields preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Knowledge of personal computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required. Knowledge of corporate computer applications (ADMS, Ameren Map Viewer, Load Analysis) and PSS/E is preferred. Must possess good analytical, decision making, verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders to reach consensus. The successful applicant must also possess initiative and a sense of ownership / pride in their areas of responsibility.
