SVM - Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor - Small Animal Clinic

St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time teaching position as an Instructor, in the Small Animal Clinic Department in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 8/1/2024.

Objective:

The faculty of St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine are dedicated to upholding the mission of providing an international, culturally diverse environment in which students learn the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for postgraduate training in the Veterinary profession while being inspired to develop compassion, curiosity, tolerance and a commitment to animals and society, a dedication to life-long learning and an understanding of the vital role of research in Veterinary Medicine.

Essential Functions:

Instructional Activities:
  • Deliver lectures in following courses/disciplines:

  • SAMS 528

  • SAMS 526

  • SAMS 515

  • LAMS 502

    Supplemental Teaching:

  • In addition to teaching in the core courses for the DVM program, faculty may be required to support departmental teaching in the graduate program and the pre-veterinary program as well as the Integrated Team Instruction delivery of the DVM program – a small group-based curriculum delivery.

  • Deliver lectures in following courses/disciplines:

  • AAARF

  • FCP

  • Clinical mentorship of pre-vet students and EMS

    Research and Scholarly Activities:

  • Actively engage in a research topic in a relevant area

  • Support student research and learning through supervision and mentoring of selected students

  • Contribute to curriculum review and innovation.

  • Practice continuous quality improvement of the courses and content delivered by the department

  • Active participation in scientific/educational conferences and Continued Education

    Service:

  • Participate in the following University activities:

  • Work with emergency cases and after hours shifts on a rotational basis, including but not limited to overnights and weekends and should enjoy working with veterinary students in a clinical educational setting.

  • Be available to work all year round, except for a 30 days vacation period.

  • Participate in clinical and academic teaching services offered by the SAC including oversight and supervision of students on companion animal medicine rotations/labs, surgery rotations/labs, Emergency and critical rotations/labs, management of in hospitalized cases, outpatient procedures, physical exam labs, perform routine and emergency surgeries an procedures, and daily cage side rounds.

  • Instruction of students in all aspects of general practice and emergency and critical care, clinical teaching of third year veterinary students.

  • Provide clinical service on medicine, emergency and critical care and surgery

  • Faculty Senate

  • Departmental Reviews (as required)

  • Faculty Meetings (as required)

  • Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean)

  • Administrative roles, as assigned by the Chair of the Department and/or the Dean

  • Outreach efforts in the local community

  • Contribute to the academic advisory system for all students enrolled on the DVM program

    Qualifications:

  • DVM or equivalent

    Desirable Qualities:

  • Experience in emergency and critical care medicine and/or surgery is an asset.

  • Experience teaching a clinical skill curriculum.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • A commitment to the education of veterinary professionals

  • This is a full-time position in the Caribbean Island of Grenada.
