Cabela's CAM Technician Co Op in Springfield, United States

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a CAM Technician Co-Op to support our manufacturing and engineering teams. This internship offers practical experience in computer-aided manufacturing, with a focus on CAM programming, process optimization, and 3D printing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create and modify CNC programs using CAM software like Mastercam, Catia, or other 3D modeling tools.

  • Develop machining strategies and tool paths.

  • Work with engineers and machinists to improve manufacturing processes.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving.

  • Maintain documentation for CNC programs, setup sheets, and tooling instructions.

  • Prepare reports on project progress.

  • Ensure machined parts meet specifications and tolerances.

  • Perform inspections using tools like calipers, micrometers, and CMM.

  • Assist with 3D printer setup, operation, and maintenance.

  • Contribute to 3D printed prototypes and parts.

  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.

  • Assist in special projects and tasks as assigned by the CAM Engineer or Manufacturing Manager.

  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred Degree: Associate Degree in Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Associate's degree program in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Basic understanding of CNC machining and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Catia).

  • Interest in 3D printing and additive manufacturing.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Experience in CAM, CNC machining, or 3D printing is a plus.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Limited travel to local manufacturing plants, boat shows & marinas.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly: Computer Work, walking, sitting, standing

  • Occasionally: Lifting up to 50 lbs.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT :

Performs tasks and duties under direct supervision, using well-defined policies and procedures. Work is reviewed by supervisor. Limited opportunity exists for exercising independent judgment and decision making.
