JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Delaware County, 4-H Program Assistant

Position Location: Penn State Extension – Delaware County, Smedley Park, 20 Papermill Rd., Springfield, PA 19064

Position Goal:

Support the Delaware County 4-H team in providing high quality positive youth development program experiences for existing as well as new youth audiences. The 4-H Program Assistant will be responsible to the 4-H Educator.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of new 4-H programs across all delivery modes (school, after school, day camps, clubs, etc.).

  • Organize and lead teacher trainings for local educators implementing 4-H school enrichment programs, such as Embryology, in their classrooms.

  • Enhance program quality through training and support for all 4-H volunteers with particular emphasis on new volunteers in 4-H clubs in transition.

  • Work with the Delaware County 4-H team to plan, deliver and evaluate local 4-H educational programs and supporting activities such as contests and fundraisers.

  • Support the introduction and long-term offering of new project areas such as STEM, environmental education, creative arts, leadership, and healthy living.

  • Assist the 4-H Extension Educator in reaching new audiences in accordance with the Penn State University Affirmative Action Policy.

  • Participate in county, regional or state events as appropriate.

  • Provide support at 4-H events by recording registration, chaperoning, conducting workshops and assisting with the management of shows and contests.

  • Monitor children and be responsible for the whereabouts, supervision, and safety of all children registered/in attendance for the program.

  • Support 4-H program marketing and promotion for outreach to new youth audiences across Delaware County.

  • Assist in the procurement of financial and material donations for use at programs.

  • Assist with 4-H enrollment management, survey data entry and/or animal project data entry as needed.

  • Establish and maintain program files.

  • Assist with inventory of program materials and supplies.

  • Submit work time and travel reports for reimbursement by due date.

Qualifications/Preferred Experience:

  • Position requires excellent organizational, record keeping and time management skills, the ability to work independently.

  • Must be a team player who can work with diverse youth and adults.

  • Possess an understanding of youth development; be able to effectively interact with youth.

  • Possess knowledge of educational principles and presentation preparation skills; ability to plan and teach activities and educational programs.

  • Possess good communication skills needed for group presentations and individual communication with members, parents, leaders, teachers, and agency staff.

  • Possess computer skills for creating documents and marketing pieces.

  • Completed or enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in youth development, education, science, engineering, volunteer development, or another related field.

  • Familiarity with the 4-H Program is preferred.

  • Familiarity with Delaware County and Chester city community is preferred.

  • This position requires the applicant to operate a motor vehicle as part of the job duties. A valid US driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

  • Standard background check to work with minors are required as per Penn State hiring policies. Successful applicants will not be able to start work until those clearances have been received. This job requires the following 3 publicly available clearances:

  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form

  • FBI Criminal Background Check

  • The candidate must be able to carry equipment and educational materials and supplies, with or without accommodation.

  • Applicant must be willing to work flexible hours.

Time Requirements:

Year round, 20 hours/week (some weeks will be up to 40 hours)

Salary:

Starts at $17.00 per hour
