Job Description:

Job Title: Release of Information Coordinator Location: Springfield, MODepartment: Compliance & IntegrityEmployment Type: Full-timeShift: Monday - Friday 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.

Job Summary:

Incumbent collaborates with the Director of Health Information Management to manage medical record release and document imaging procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate medical record release workflows, including document imaging processes.

  • Maintain internal tracking systems for medical record requests, ensuring efficient fulfillment.

  • Supervise and train Medical Records Clerk and Imaging Associate teams.

  • Liaison with external release of information vendors.

  • Manage various record request types (e.g. Mortality Review Committee, Billing, Legal).

  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing requestor concerns professionally.

  • Locate and retrieve medical records from legacy systems as needed.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Health Information Management on record retention and destruction.

  • Identify and report potential privacy concerns to the Privacy Office

  • Identifies and coordinates corrections for any misfiled medical record documentation.

  • Track and prepare reports on medical record activities and trends for analysis.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and/or Education Qualifications:

  • One of the following credentials strongly preferred: RHIA, RHIT, CHPC, CRIS.

  • Associate’s degree in Health Information Management required.

OR

  • Five years of industry experience, including one to three years of medical records experience.

Supervisory Requirements:

  • Communicate the strategic direction of the organization and encourage participation by all employees.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all aspects of the department.

  • Take an active role in monitoring the identification, development, and execution of strategic objectives.

  • Involve, as appropriate, all employees in order to achieve goals.

  • Effectively communicate to employees any changes and newsworthy events within the department or company.

  • Handle difficult employee situations directly, using appropriate discretion and Human Resource advice to show respect for the individual.

  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.

  • Reinforces team approach throughout functions; support and solicit input from team members at all levels with the company.

  • Maintains confidentiality of business information, including Protected Health Information (PHI), as required by HIPAA and company policy.
