General Function

The Instructor NT is a non-tenure track position with responsibilities to teach full-time and to provide appropriate service. The Instructor NT may participate in research or creative activities.

Description of Primary Duties

The primary responsibility will be teaching undergraduate courses in plant science and horticulture. The standard teaching load is twelve undergraduate course credits per academic semester and could include courses in plant propagation, greenhouse management, plant science, plant science lab, herbaceous plants, vegetable production, and other topics as needed. Secondary responsibilities include management of the college greenhouse and supervision and coordination of student employees, academic advising of undergraduate students, advising of student organizations such as the Horticulture Club, and service to the academic unit, College, University, and community. Upon satisfying the University’s criteria for graduate-level faculty status, graduate-level parallel courses may be taught, and the candidate may advise Masters-level graduate students.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

An earned terminal degree or the degree required for teaching in certain disciplines is required. Potential or demonstrated teaching ability is required. A willingness to serve the academic unit, college, and the University is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Additional Qualifications

A Master of Science degree in Horticulture or related field relevant to the position is required. Experience in managing or working in a greenhouse is required.
