Description:

Position Purpose

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for pre-registration, registration and admission functions for the Family Life Center (Maternity/OB) at Mercy Medical Center.

What you will do

  • Verify insurance requirements, obtains and understands insurance benefits

  • Responsible for upfront collections, co-pays and high deductibles

  • Ensure that all entries concerning demographic, financial and advanced directives are accurate. Collects non-covered fees

  • Interview all patients to obtain demographic and financial information, inputs data into EMR system. Identifies party that can legally authorize services. Sorts and distributes all appropriate copies and completes all phases of registration process, (i.e.) other papers, patient bracelet, patient rights, Health Care Proxy info etc

  • Coordinate bed assignment for all patients and maintains death books and releases information to funeral homes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, college preferred

  • Medical terminology skills

  • Relevant medical office, hospital / physicians billing or patient registration experience preferred
