Job Summary

The Instructional Designer is an important part of the Learning and Development team and is accountable for designing and developing highly effective and instructionally sound learning solutions and experiences across a wide variety of audiences, needs, subject matters and modalities. This role also provides instructional design consultation and expertise to other members of the L&D team on solutions developed by others to improve their effectiveness.

The Aspen Group Design Team operates like an internal consultancy; flexing between projects, work types, partners and audiences frequently. This person is a self-starter and can execute under minimal supervision. This person is a strong collaborator and works well with others. This person must be an exceptional communicator and writer; able to seek new ways of doing things, open to new ways of thinking, and demonstrate agility in ambiguous and frequently changing situations. This role will partner closely with the Director, Learning Design and other leaders in L&D to understand the most important design needs to maximize their expertise and impact.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design world class, instructionally sound learning solutions and experiences

  • Support the design process, from needs analysis through design, development, and evaluation, on many projects. This will be guided by an L&D Manager, depending on size and scope of project

  • Collaborate with other members of L&D to understand the intent of the learning and to improve the overall learner’s experience

  • Contribute to needs analysis by researching related materials

  • Draft the design of materials, with L&D Manager support where needed

  • Develop and/or improve content using a variety of modalities, including video, simulation, in-person learning, live virtual learning, and web-based. Uses tools such as Articulate Storyline/Rise, Camtasia, and Microsoft Office/PowerPoint

  • Organize and sequence learning materials into courses and curriculum plans on the LMS

  • Research and identify appropriate courses from our learning library, based on identified criteria

  • Assist with project management tasks, including building plans and updating detailed project sheets

  • Assess and recommend new development tools and applications

  • Support administrative tasks including organization of our asset library, standards documentation, and template development

  • Support team toward achieving department goals and priorities

  • Represent and maintain awareness of the brands across the organization

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Education level: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 2+ years in a professional setting, preferably in a Learning and Development role

  • Working knowledge of adult learning theory and principles, such as ADDIE or similar processes

  • Proficiency, or proven ability to learn technologies such as Articulate Storyline or Rise, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Captivate and Premiere, Vyond, Camtasia, Kahoot, Miro, Smartsheet

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – i.e., multiple Outlook accounts, Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, etc. and SharePoint

  • Some interaction with LMS preferred

  • Good project management skills, able to organize and execute tasks and activities with urgency, and deliver work on time

  • Flexibility and agility to be proactive in a fast paced, ever-changing environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Detail-oriented and organized.

  • Team player, highly motivated self-starter even under stressful conditions

Compensation Range: $65,000 - $80,000
