JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Project Coordinator

San Diego Youth Services seeks a Project Coordinator in the Safe School Project to be based at San Diego Youth Services Spring Valley East Communities Campus and identified school campus within La Mesa Spring Valley School District (LMSVSD). This is a full-time & exempt position reporting to the Director of Services. San Diego Youth Services:  Who we are San Diego Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 780,000 homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless.

We aim to:

  • Meet the basic needs of youth.  Hunger, poverty and youth homelessness are on the rise for many youth and their families today. We help meet these basic needs for youth. What could be more vital than food and shelter? We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing.

  • Create positive connection. We help youth focus on positive life changes and healthy relationships as part of providing needed resources and services. San Diego Youth Services has long provided foster homes and adoption support services for families considering adopting a youth in the foster care system.

  • Help youth develop life skills. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets.

  • Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources.

    SDYS has a staff of approximately 250 employees and 80 volunteers working across San Diego County and an annual budget of approximately $24 million. You can learn more about us at  www.sdyouthservices.org. 

    CONTEXT OF THE POSITION

    Accountable to the Director of Services and the Clinical Supervisor. Responsible for providing direct services to middle school students and their families, which may include but are not limited to:

    Management and Project Coordination – Responsible for overall daily functioning and quality control for project services to include, but not be limited to, monitoring intake assessment and service plans, coordinating direct Youth Behavioral Health Specialist staff, site coordination and coordination of Project Network meetings and activities, and general service provision review. Work within team model, establishing leadership and networking with community and school partners to support all levels of project services.  Student Services – Student screening and assessment, case management, facilitating support groups, parent/caregiver educational meetings.

    Essential functions include:

  • The development, implementation, and evaluation of quality trauma informed youth programs that adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of San Diego Youth Services as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality.

  • Ensure the development, implementation, and evaluation of program(s) that adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services to the underserved students and families. Remain culturally sensitive and respectful to all staff and clients.

  • Participate in appropriate collaborative, community, school district and school site systems to create new ways of integrating services and advocate for institutional and systematic changes.

  • Establish and maintain linkage relationships with agencies, organizations, schools, community collaboratives and civic & community groups to enhance community relationships and leverage resources to benefit students and their families.

  • Coordinate Parent/Caregiver Outreach efforts when needed, as guided by District and School’s Administrative Teams.

  • Facilitate a weekly Case Management meeting with the site team. Manage and assign referrals. Review assessments identified goals & family service plans and discharge planning, as well as maintaining a partial case load directly.

  • Coordinate and maintain statistical systems for funding sources, contract compliance and agency goals accountability. Provide necessary, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and statistics to Director of Services, agency fiscal department, and funding source(s).

  • Establish and maintain current, accurate, timely confidential record keeping and outcomes monitoring systems.

  • Participate in appropriate agency-wide committees, i.e. advocacy, work groups, marketing, planning and management team meetings, including resource development and grant development plans, and SDYS staff development events.

  • Assist with coordination, training and support of core staff, and assigned interns/trainees & volunteers.

  • Coordinate in-service training and staff meetings for the purpose of training staff and facilitating communication among team members.

  • Maintain a minimum of 20 hours of clinical-related training per year, 8 of which must be in Cultural Competency.

  • Follow all legal and ethical guidelines pertaining to the treatment of youth and families as per the state and county requirements (e.g. Child Abuse Reporting, Duty to Warn, Confidentiality, Grievance Procedures, Informed Consent, and Serious Incident Reporting) and ensure staff do the same.

  • Provide and facilitate case coordination with Community Assessment Team program staff.

  • Other duties as necessary to ensure successful project implementation.

    PREFERRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed MFT, LCSW, LPCC or Licensed Psychologist and in good standing with the State of California’s Board of Behavioral Services preferred.

  • License-eligible (MFT, MSW, MHC) by the State of California required.

  • Requires a minimum of two years of job-related experience, including case management services, mental health assessment and direct mental health service experience with at-risk youth and families in public school settings. Knowledge of East County and SDYS resources and experience in alcohol and drug service systems are highly desirable. Experience in youth, family, and community development methods.

  • Must have an understanding and value the Family Partnership models. Skilled in building and maintaining collaborative relationships, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

  • Must possess excellent oral and written skills and be computer literate. Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities, coordinating skills, creativity, and public speaking preferred. Bilingual (Spanish, Arabic, or Farsi language) preferred.

  • Must show a willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

  • Experience with training, and scheduling of program activities and staff coverage.

  • Must have reliable vehicle, relevant auto insurance, a clean driving record, and willing to drive (mileage reimbursement available).

  • Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment; experience working in trauma-informed and dual diagnosis programs preferred.

  • Maintain CPR and First Aid Certificate.

    Salary Range :  $70,000 – 75,000/year + up to $1500 annual bilingual differential based on proficiency
