Scot Forge Company Controller Accounting/Finance in Spring Grove, Illinois

Controller

We are seeking a Controller to be the financial lead for operations with an emphasis on working directly with manufacturing connecting shop floor processes to the financial impacts and costs associated with them. The role will focus extensively with the plant floor departments and processes, as well as the office departments to connect and develop fiscal impact understanding and measures. The position also is an opportunity to learn from all the internal departments the inner workings of the company and provide a future training ground for the development within the accounting department and company.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Learn the day-to-day accounting and operations processes to develop and implement better processes and measurements that will drive enhanced productivity and financial results.

  • Develop strong relationships with the plants, operational departments, functional leads, and senior leadership teams and use this to evaluate new investments and develop business cases for these investments.

  • Work closely with the continuous improvement function to align financial goals with the initiatives and create and communicate productivity/financial goals.

  • Supervise manufacturing accounting including the review of closed work orders to ensure all costs have been properly allocated and accounted for.

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the costing process to map out the flow and evaluate whether there are more accurate methods to identify costs to our products as they move through the shop.

  • Transition the GAAP costing function oversight back into the accounting team and participate in the costing rates team reviews and decisions.

  • Ensure the accuracy of the inventory transactions, work with the operations teams to ensure inventory transactions or completed in a timely and accurate manner. This would include education of operations on transaction processes and understanding as well as ensuring reporting is created and maintained to improve inventory understanding and accuracy.

  • Strategically evaluate processes to ensure the long term future implications on structure and markets are holistically considered and understood.

  • Work with the accounting team on the audit process focusing on the revenue recognition portion and the inventory.

  • Support the CFO and learn the functions of the accounting department to fill in where necessary.

  • Evaluate and improve internal accounting policies and processes ensuring that practices are in line with organizational goals.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years accounting and finance experience.

  • Manufacturing experience.

  • ESOP experience is a plus.

Required Skills

  • Solid experience in partnering with operations teams in manufacturing settings to solve financial problems, build business cases, develop process improvements, or educate on financial acumen.

  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.

  • Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management.

  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
