Summary of Duties:

 

The Vice Dean for Educational Affairs (VDEA) in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine oversees the Department of Educational Affairs, which encompasses the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) educational program, Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, medical education simulation program and the clinical regional campuses. The role will also foster the development of community partnerships to gain capital support of current and future programs.

 

This is a 12-month annual, continuous, open rank, career track faculty role with sub-track and rank determined at time of selection based on incumbent's qualifications. In accordance with the Faculty Manual, the additional administrative role of Vice Dean is fixed-term and serves at the discretion of the Dean and/or Executive Vice President of Health Sciences regardless of term.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Undergraduate Medical Education 40%

 

The VDEA oversees the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) areas and the Associate Deans in Assessment and Evaluation, Curriculum, GME and Clinical Education. The VDEA ensures the UME curricular development meets desired competencies, objectives and accreditation standards and provides strategic leadership and direction in assessment and evaluation procedures to assure educational excellence. The VDEA collaborates directly with all leaders of the Department of Clinical Sciences to ensure alignment and execution of the UME education.

 

Clinical Campus Partnerships 25%

 

The VDEA oversees the efforts of the Associate Deans for Clinical Education (ADCE) at the regional campuses in engagement of statewide relationship building, preceptor identification and recruitment, clinical campus operations and the MD student education. The VDEA collaborates with the Departments of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology as well as Speech and Hearing Sciences to ensure program success at the clinical campuses and development of infrastructure for interprofessional education.

 

Graduate Medical Education 25%

 

The VDEA is responsible for the strategic management and operational oversight of the College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. The VDEA oversees the efforts of the Associate Dean for GME with the goal of working with clinical partners to increase the number and capacity of GME programs throughout WA.
