We are looking for a Product Regulatory Specialist to join our Coatings team in Southfield, MI.

BASF’s Coatings division is a global expert in the development, production and marketing of innovative and sustainable automotive OEM and refinish coatings, decorative paints as well as applied surface treatments for metal, plastic and glass substrates in a wide range of industries. This portfolio is supplemented by "Beyond Paint Solutions", which enable new applications with innovative surfaces.

As a member of the Coatings Product Stewardship & Regulatory organization in North America, you will be supporting regulatory compliance programs for the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) and other chemical regulations, including conducting regulatory assessments, developing compliance strategies, managing the submissions of notifications and reports, creating training content and supporting investigations.

You create chemistry by...

  • Supporting governance activities: developing, implementing, maintaining TSCA/CEPA programs & procedures

  • Collaborating with regional and global BASF business and technical management colleagues in the development of strategies for prioritization, preparation and submission of new substance notifications, and serving as the contact with regulatory authorities.

  • Providing strategic advice and taking actions to ensure regulatory compliance while minimizing supply disruptions, implementing cost savings, and increasing contribution margins for BASF products.

  • Engaging in advocacy efforts to promote transparent science-based new substance regulations and other topics of importance to the chemical industry.

  • Representing BASF as a subject matter expert through active participation in trade organizations.

If you...

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, or related degree or equivalent blend of knowledge and experience.

  • Have experience and knowledge with digital tools, data analytics and emerging technologies to drive innovation and support digital transformation is a plus.

  • Have chemical and product regulatory knowledge including expertise in TSCA/CEPA and state/provincial regulations especially regulations relevant to the coatings industry.

  • Creative, conceptual, analytical and strategic thinking and independent decision making.

  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking competency to discern actions needed, make decisions, drive change and communicate in a clear, concise and effective manner.

  • Analyze and interpret existing, new and revised regulations, and distill complex regulatory topics into key points that can be clearly understood by business and technical audiences with varying levels of expertise.
