Job Summary

Perform highly skilled work and coordinate the work of others in the inspecting, repairing, rebuilding, and assembly of equipment (critical / large power plant components such as turbine, fan, valve and pump) sent to Central Machine Shop and perform the same at other places of temporary assignment. This is a lead position that requires minimal or no supervison.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.) CMS welder 1st class performs critical and specific welding / rebuilding procedures on priority power plant equipment to repair various damage modes including cracks, foreign object damage, erosion, corrosion, cavitation, etc., with finished grinding dimensions requiring tolerances of .003" to .005" along with specifically desired surface finishes. Welding materials include a variety of stainless steels and other alloys primarily used in the "Tig" welding process.

2.) Perform manual metal arc, tungsten inert gas (Tig welding), gas metal arc, and oxyacetylene welding in all positions, including the safe operation of the submerged arc welding equipment. Perform qualified welding of all shafting, turbine components, and high stress structural members.

3.) Perform work to support ID fan repairs as required ... QC, cleaning, disassembly and assembly.

4.) Perform stress relieving processes as required. Apply hard surfacing material such as stellite.

5.) Perform silver brazing work such as installing turbine bucket erosion shields.

6.) Perform maintenance work on the Central Machine Shop building and equipment.

7.) Assist, as directed, employees of equal of higher classification in carrying through work assignments.

8.) Instruct, direct, and lay out the work of assigned others. Perform all work in accordance with safety regulations and acceptable shop practices.

9.) Report irregularities or abnormal conditions. Take notes and keep records as directed.

11.) Support AEP's cultural goals and expectations.

12.) Perform similar or less skilled work, as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education requirements are listed below: High School diploma, or GED.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Physical demand level is Medium

Progression to 1st class requires demonstration of required skills, job experience as a Welder 2nd class working in a step-up capacity, overall job experience and leadership abilities.
