Job Duties
Come join our team at the Department of Workforce Development and Advancement (DWDA)! In 2023, bipartisan legislation consolidated a dozen workforce development programs and data systems from various existing Commonwealth of Virginia agencies to create the Department of Workforce Development and Advancement (DWDA), known as Virginia Works. On July 1, 2024, Virginia Works stood up as an independent agency dedicated to creating, sustaining, and retaining a highly skilled workforce, and committed to making sure Virginia Works for everyone.
Provides workforce services to employers and job seekers related to the administration of Wagner-Peyser (WP) and Workforce Innovation Opportunity Acts (WIOA). Works with employers to maintain strong working relationships; prepares, reviews, and processes complete and accurate job orders in the Virginia Workforce Connection (VWC); completes matching process to identify and/or refer potential job applicants; effectively markets and provides information on VEC services, including use of labor exchange services and labor market information; and performs other employer duties (e.g., attending job fairs, scheduling interviews and screening applications) as needed. Works with jobseekers to find suitable employment; conducts interviews to evaluate workforce needs; uses information to determine training and/or other needs, matches skill set to potential job opportunities, and makes reasonable and appropriate referrals; and provides information on agency and/or other supportive services. Provides administrative office support activates and ensure the timely and accurate processing and filing of documents and information related to field office management and operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge of employment interviewing techniques, employment and wage laws and guidelines, and office operation and etiquette.
Strong customer service, oral and written communication, and computer skills (experience using Microsoft Office Professional and/or similar software).
Ability to interact effectively with employers and the public; discuss, interpret and apply agency standards and procedures; conduct interviews and research.
Evaluate skill sets and needs; use web-based applications to enter data and conduct database searches;
Provide administrative support (e.g., filing, copying, typing, order supplies, handling mail, and responding to inquiries) and adapt to changing priorities.
Additional Considerations
Experience in customer service, human resources, community services, VEC workforce services, and/or related training programs.

*This is a non-exempt, hourly position without benefits, eligible to work up to 1,500 hours annually (May 1 - April 30). *
