SCHEDULE
Approximately 25 hours per week.
PAY RATE
Salary Range is $28,000 to $30,000 annually
DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports the Engagement and Economic Empowerment team (EEE Team) and its activities to develop strategies that empower all residents with access to economic opportunity and meaningful civic participation. Innovation, creativity, and problem solving are critical skills for success. This is a part-time position not-to-exceed 30 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
- Empowers the community by engaging residents and working with them to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods and by facilitating civic participation, community partnerships, and awareness and accessibility to city services.
- Assists the Director of EEE with the departments outreach and communication efforts and prepares messaging and communication related to major projects and services.
- Supports EEE project leads with key initiatives, including the Linden Avenue Farmers Market and Ignite Grant, including coordinating site inspections for both programs.
- Prepares reports on program activities and progress, including tracking vendor participation in events.
- Prepares and monitors vendor invoices.
- Serves as a representative for the department to the public; provides program information, answers questions and assists the public as necessary.
- Promotes the Citys vision for South Bend neighborhoods that embodies economic opportunity for all residents.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of urban farming and growing, as well as basic knowledge of Food and Nutrition Services and USDA Nutrition programs, such as SNAP and WIC.
- Ability to work as a productive team member and operate at a high level and adapt in an environment with changing and urgent priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships and to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, humility and open communication.
- Ability to manage and adapt to ambiguity and conflicting priorities in a public office environment.
- Experience with event planning, marketing, and implementation, including vendor management.
- Strong project management and data management skills, including a sharp attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS: College degree in communications, urban planning, public administration, sociology, social work, or a related field.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:Valid Drivers license required.
EQUIPMENT:Personal Computer, motor vehicle; calculator, phone; copier and scanner.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee is occasionally required to walk, perform canvassing door to door with other team members, pass out flyers, set up for events, and other types of program related materials.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:Standard office setting with some travel from site to site.
