Description

Salary: $19.77 per hour

SUMMARY:Performs tasks related to signage, lighting, marking, maintaining and improving the public right-of-way and public facilities in the City as assigned to the Bureau. Does related work as assigned under direct or indirect supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:To successfully perform in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and drive 4-wheel drive pickup trucks and dump trucks, with or without snowplow and salt spreader attachment, bucket truck and forklift.
  • Operate, maintain and repair paint striping machines and other specialized equipment; operate self-propelled striping machines.
  • Apply paint to pavement, traffic devices and equipment.
  • Cut metal to size, assemble traffic control devices.
  • Install posts, signs and other traffic control devices to provide for traffic control in work zones, for parades and special events, detours and other traffic restrictions.
  • Trim weeds, brush, limbs and other debris to ensure there is no interference with traffic and traffic control signs and devices.
  • Assist with updates and maintenance of sign inventory with written and/or automated systems.
  • Assist lighting crew in all aspects of construction and/or electrical work, assists with bulb changes and State, County and City inspections.
  • Operate retro-reflectometer.
  • Work in high-lift bucket and platform trucks above ground to heights of 50 feet.
  • Plow snow as required.
  • Ability to use laptop/tablet to be able to report and maintain GIS Maps.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to perform very strenuous work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
  • Know work crew practices, basic safety and traffic rules and regulations.
  • Provide labor to assist other bureaus and divisions.
  • Assume additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Be available for weekday, weekend and holiday stand-by.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:

  • Ability to read and write.
  • Clean driving record.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Must have or be able to obtain a Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers license within 60 working days with endorsements as noted:

Class A Commercial Drivers License: Air brake,Combination Vehicle

Class B Commercial Drivers License: Air Brake,Tanker

TOOLS USED:Jack hammer, post pounder/puller, miscellaneous hand tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Most, if not all, work to be performed occurs outdoors. Applicant must be able to work in extremely adverse weather conditions and/or environment. Must be able to climb into truck beds; lift or assist in lifting up to 120 pounds; push or pull equipment into position and be able to perform very strenuous physical work. May be exposed to oil and grease, solvents and other chemicals. This is a safety-sensitive position, subject to random testing for drugs and alcohol in accordance with City policy.
