SUMMARY: Plan, design and implement application programs and systems. Such activities involve interaction with development and end-user personnel to determine application and other pertinent data required to develop and maintain integrated databases. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Project Management * Work with IT manager to provide input into project profiles and how a project can be divided into independent and manageable sub-projects. * Provide time estimates for projects and sub-projects. * Report on project status and progress. * Keep IT manager informed of project objectives, potential problems and other routine information. 2. Program Design Specifications * Work with IT manager to develop detailed functional design specifications. * Consider all design alternatives, evaluate and justify all program designs. * Work with programmers to develop detailed programming design specifications (including: file structure, program function, and program structure and logic flow). * Contribute new ideas to improve and enhance programming specifications for SQL & RPG. 3. Programming * Code programs based on design specifications according to corporate/department policies. * Run software through a diverse representation of test cases and scenarios. * Ensure that software meets quality standards and that all functional features are implemented. * Respond to all programming and software concerns expeditiously. 4. Create miscellaneous reports/spreadsheets on request. * Ensure data is accurate and complete. * Assess and prioritize report/spreadsheet needs as requested 5. Respond to system pager. * Availability 24/7 and arrange for back up when not available at least one week in advance. * Respond to page within 15 minutes. * Reduce downtime. * Participate in a rotating schedule. 6. Purchased Software * Assist in the evaluation of specialized software products * Perform or assist in the download and installation of "canned" software products. * Become knowledgeable in the use of such products (i.e., product setup, usage and functionality, product interface with Wheeler Bros., database(s). * Work with product support via email, chat, or phone to remedy issues or product deficiencies, provide feedback, and request enhancements. * Setup and/or schedule product reporting and other outputs. 7. OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB: * Work with IT Manager to provide input and assistance with system upgrades and with high availability systems/issues. * Perform other duties as assigned or required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 1. Education * Two-year certification from college or technical school with emphasis in RPG programming preferred. 2. Experience/Training * Minimum three years' experience with AS400 to include: SQL, ILE, RPG, DDS, CL, and DFU. * Experience with PC software to include: Microsoft Office Products and AS400 Client Access. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 1. Problem Solving Skills * Recognizes problems and provides feedback or documentation to assist with resolving the problem. * Troubleshoots or takes initiative to solve problems. * Investigates and provides root cause analysis of problems, suggests alternatives, evaluates outcomes, and makes formal recommendations for solutions. 2. Communication Skills * Clearly and consistently verbally communicates priorities. * Ensure timely exchange of verbal information between employees or departments. * Verbally informs employees at all levels within the organization with need to know information. * Consistently uses good listening skills to remain informed and acts upon or acknowledges receipt of information. * Provide well-organized and clearly written information. 3. Math Skills * Perform accurate basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplic tion, and division. * Perform basic mathematical functions, percentages, ratios, etc. 4. Computer Knowledge * Beginner to intermediate knowledge of Word * Beginner to intermediate knowledge of Excel * Programming/.NET * Internet/E-mail 5. Other Characteristics * Documentation and observation skills. * Strong organizational skills. * Ability to follow established confidentiality policy. * Effective oral and written communication skills. * Ability to follow established safety standards. * Working knowledge of applicable regulations. * Ability to use various office equipment, i.e., copier, fax, shredder, printer, etc. 6. The selected applicant will be subject to a background check and drug testing.
