Role reports to: Head of Translational Science, Baby Care

Location: Kenvue’s corporate headquarters is currently located in Skillman NJ, but is scheduled to move to Summit, NJ in or around early 2025.

Travel %: 10%

Pay: Annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $166,600 to $225,000 .

What you will do

The Associate Director is responsible for a team focused on conducting foundational and applied research to build the science around our most iconic brands such as Johnson’s Baby® and Aveeno® Baby. This position will be responsible for framing strategy and execution of key research initiatives to enable sustained thought leadership and HCP endorsement across a $1.7 B global Baby Portfolio. This role is accountable to lead the Baby Strategic Applied Sciences team, delivering scientific guidance to product development teams and research initiatives to fuel innovation that will continue to elevate standard of care through understanding of skin physiology of developing baby skin. The role will also help shape novel claim substantiation through new methods/models in partnership with translational science team peers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Baby R&D Strategic Applied Sciences team; accountable to set strategy, prioritize programs, and execute with efficiency and excellence.

  • Utilize strong technical skills and good judgment to effectively assess risk, mitigate issues, and implement solutions that increase the chances of project success.

  • Communicate technical challenges clearly and effectively in the spirit of partnership and teamwork.

  • Partner with the Baby Claims / Clinical Strategy / Consumer Science team to develop new research programs based on consumer insights, translate new scientific learnings to consumer facing claims and communications, and build new models for claims substantiation

  • Partner with the Baby and Skin Health Upstream teams to inform new formulation technology development and efficacy ingredient assessment based on preclinical and clinical models.

  • Partner with Baby Global Scientific Engagement to shape healthcare professional engagement strategy and develop scientific content to share with key opinion leaders, academic researchers, and external research organizations focused on baby’s health and well being

  • Ensure continuous professional development of the individuals on their team.

  • Develop and implement scientific and technical strategies to accelerate the development of products and enhance communication of product benefits

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including internal and external scientific partners, to advance research and development efforts

Qualifications

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  • A BS, MS or PhD in Science, Engineering, Pharmacy, or related field

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience with BS or equivalent, 10 years of experience with MS or 8 years of experience with PhD

  • Must have a proven track record of initiating and driving to completion new research in skin physiology, peer reviewed publications and translation of scientific research into product and novel claims pipeline

Expertise in one or more of the following areas: preclinical model development, skin biology, clinical study design and execution

  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice requirements

  • Understanding of key performance and safety tests related to skincare and haircare products

  • Comfortable with ambiguity; able to help teams navigate uncertainty and risk

  • Ability to partner effectively across a diverse set of business partners to deliver key results in a timely manner

  • Strong technical and leadership skills

  • Excellent communication skills, including spoken and written English

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of GxPs and FDA Compliance requirements

  • Knowledge of skincare and/or haircare formulation technologies and principles

  • Experience with translation of scientific data into communications for healthcare professionals and consumers.
