CITY & BOROUGH OF SITKA Aquatics Supervisor in Sitka, Alaska

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the operations of the aquatic facility and programs within CBSs Parks and Recreation division through planning, coordinating, scheduling, training, and evaluating various aspects of a community pool and related activities.

Under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Manager, the Aquatics Supervisor exercises independent judgment and discretion in the leadership and supervision of the aquatic operations and staff. This position directly supervises the Head Lifeguard, temporary employees, and independent contractors providing a wide variety of recreational services and classes.

The Aquatics Supervisor, a management employee, assists and acts in a confidential capacity to the Parks and Recreational Manager, Planning and Community Development Director, Municipal Administrator, Assembly, and other department heads who formulates, determines, or effectuates management policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and supervises all aspects of the aquatics program including swim lessons, aquatic classes, open swims, rentals, and Sitka School District needs
  • Ensures aquatics program compliance with all applicable legal requirements and health and safety policies, standards, and certification requirements
  • Responds to emergencies in an aquatic facility, performing water rescues, first aid, CPR, AED use, and evacuations.
  • Develops and evaluates an aquatics facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
  • Hires and onboards the Head Lifeguard and temporary employees, and supervises all employees training, scheduling, and evaluations
  • Facilitates all staff certifications and training needs, and facilitates community training programs for lifeguards, CPR/AED and First Aid, Water Safety Instructor, and other specialized training needs
  • Monitors, manages, and takes corrective steps to ensure proper pool chemical balances
  • Maintains inventory of pool supplies and equipment used in the program, including pool chemicals, safety, and training equipment
  • Provides operational oversight for the independent contractors who provide aquatic services and classes
  • Performs a full range of administrative functions such as collecting and processing user fees, data entry and management, preparing reports, requesting facility maintenance, purchasing of aquatic equipment and supplies, and processing budget forms
  • Assists the Parks and Recreation Manager with the development and promotion of new programming, as well as policies and procedures related to aquatics programming and facility use
  • Performs other duties as assigned
