Basic Purpose/Accountabilities:
The Market Analysis Director is responsible for supporting Singapore Trading desks by providing short- and long-term fundamental analysis. He or she will manage and mentor local Market Analysts and work with the global network of strategists in London and Houston to identify and propose trading strategies based on fundamental analysis. The Director of Market Analysis will proactively engage with trading managers to understand current and potential business needs and tailor analysis accordingly.
Primary Responsibilities:
Understand the position of crude, clean products, fuel oil, NGL, LPG and renewable traders and coordinate analytical work with the analysts to improve the understanding of the underlying market impacting those positions
Identify market anomalies and communicate to traders how to take physical or financial positions around them to capture opportunities
Develop and implement new models driven by econometrics, linear programing, or other quantitative methods to forecast shorter market behaviour in the short term and long term
Work together with the analysts to improve the accuracy of the supply and demand models by improving their forecast accuracy in the short term and medium term
Lead local team of analysts in preparation of global trading meetings and develop them for future roles within the commercial organization
Work with external consultants, network and develop relationships with other oil analysts in the industry for market understanding
Participate in weekly meetings with traders, collaborate and formulate the short-term market view and try to generate trading ideas
Work with the Chief Economist Office by updating corporate long-range price forecasts
Provide ad hoc analysis and help with data augmentation exercises carried by the Singapore analysis team.
Basic / Required Qualifications:
Master’s or advance degree in engineering, finance or economics.
10+ years of market analysis experience at a major oil company, commodity trading house or investment bank. Experience in other trading hubs like London, NYC, Dubai or Houston is a plus
Financial, economic, statistical analysis or modelling experience required.
Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills.
Proficiency with Excel, Access or other database software, statistical modelling software, and economic model development is a plus with coding experience in SQL, VBA, Python, R or other programing language
High degree of collaborative skills with the ability to develop, lead and actively participate on cross functional teams and counterparts globally
Previous experience leading a market analysis team
