Corporate Counsel

What the day will look like

  • Advise on dispute resolution matters. Such as professional negligence and commercial disputes (in particular E&Os); IP and other contractual disputes; disputes with third parties, suppliers and others; drafting settlement terms and correspondence; investigations, including investigating matters that are reported to Aon Law as claims or circumstances that may give rise to a claim; advising on steps to minimise or mitigate Aon’s potential for liability; and mediations, arbitrations, settlement discussions and court proceedings as required.

  • Structure, negotiate and draft contracts for commercial arrangements arising in Aon’s businesses, including service agreements with clients, technology license agreements, and contracts with vendors, strategic partners and other third parties.

  • Serve as a strategic partner to business teams, and shared services functions, as they develop new service offerings, obtain or expand client engagements, respond to legal and regulatory changes, and resolve contractual issues – all of which require collaboration with business colleagues across our management, broking, client services, and operations teams

  • Interpret and advise on several regulatory regimes, in conjunction with Compliance team, including those applicable to brokers and other service providers in the insurance, reinsurance, securities, and advisory industries.

  • Work in partnership with law department colleagues and business leaders to support, and in some cases manage critical initiatives related to new products or services, investigations, risk mitigation, and process improvements.

  • Develop internal policies and provide legal and risk management training and advice to the businesses, including how to mitigate or avoid E&Os, and minimize legal, regulatory and reputational risks. Advise on the application of Aon’s local, regional and global policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with Asia and global team of law and compliance professionals to advise on a wide variety of transactional, corporate, employment, regulatory, and litigation matters arising from Aon’s business.

  • Support the strategic direction of the Aon group and Legal Department on projects and initiatives that may be allocated from time to time.

    How this opportunity is different

    As a member of the Aon Asia Legal team that supports all Aon’s Solution Line capabilities, you will be expected to help Aon’s businesses identify and manage legal risks in a practical and business focused manner.

    Whilst operating across the Asia Legal team, this role will also focus its support for Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions and Risk Capital businesses, as well as the disputes resolution team, which is primarily responsible for providing advice and risk management support in relation to professional negligence claims against all of Aon's solution lines.

    You will actively contribute as a member of the Asia Legal team through team engagement opportunities, volunteering in pro-bono or charitable events, and participating in Aon’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion strategy, whilst also sharing lessons learnt to embed findings and risk mitigation strategies within the team. With the support of the Asia Legal team, you will establish yourself as a strategic advisor and partner to Aon’s businesses with an emphasis of collaborative “buying-in” to strategies and decisions.

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Qualification to practise as a lawyer in common law jurisdiction (whether in Asia or abroad)

  • A minimum of 3+ years practical legal experience; experience in-house and in Asia beneficial

  • Experience in insurance, reinsurance and/or other related financial services industries, along with the regulatory regimes

  • Experience structuring, negotiating and drafting contracts for complex commercial arrangement

  • Practical dispute resolution legal experience, including insurance litigation and professional negligence claims

  • Experience balancing corporate risk with commercial awareness and opportunity.

  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills with an eye for detail

  • Experience working in (or advising clients who are in) a regulated environment, including insurance, reinsurance, pensions, asset management and/or investment advisory is beneficial, but not required.

  • Skills for providing user-friendly legal advice, knowhow and delivery of business-facing coaching/education.

  • Experience of developing strategic partnerships/collaboration with clients.

  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
