Summary

Under the direction of the Continuous Improvement Manager, the Six Sigma Engineer I works to continuously improve the Manufacturing/Design processes to provide better product reliability, quality, lower costs, and better use of assets. The Six Sigma Engineer works directly with operators, engineering, maintenance, quality, management, and production planning to accomplish these tasks.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manages and implements continuous improvement projects to increase income or reduce costs

  • Implements lean manufacturing principals

  • With assistance from Six-Sigma Black belts, leads and manages cross-functional Six-Sigma process improvement projects and presents to Master Black Belts and business leaders

  • Identifies problems, collects data, performs analysis, generates solutions, implements corrective action, and monitors success

  • Identifies, creates and utilizes key metrics related to process improvement to prioritize projects

  • Assists with the planning, development and accomplishment of key Continuous Improvement projects

  • Develops narrowly focused, clearly defined projects to streamline and improve organizational processes.

  • Performs work under minimal supervision and within cross-functional teams

  • Assists Six Sigma Green Belt trainees and certified employees with their projects

  • Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff

  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • 0-5 years of experience in continuous improvement projects with proven/quantifiable results

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering field or Continuous Improvement is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Certified as Six Sigma Green Belt

  • Experienced managing multiple projects concurrently

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel) and other office productivity tools

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Experience in PCBA, Electro-mechanical assembly and fully integrated systems manufacturing and testing is desired

  • AS9100, ISO9001 company certification knowledge is desired

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and implements lean manufacturing principals and continuous improvement processes. Has understanding of ISO 9001 and similar achievement standards

  • Demonstrates familiarity in World Class Best Practice

  • Consistently demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates strong analytical approach to problem solving and high organizational skills as well as effective time management, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrates Leadership skills, Strategic thinking skills, Detail oriented, Sound Judgement & Creativity

  • Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties

  • Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives

  • Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past work products

  • Is committed to learning from mistakes and driven to improve and enhance performance of oneself, others, and the company

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing and office environment (Constant)

  • Regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)
