Summary

The Components Engineer III is a member of the Product Engineering team, which is responsible for sustaining engineering activities related to AV product lines. The Components Engineer III is responsible for the obsolescence management of AV products, as well as supporting design engineering teams in the selection of new components to be used in future products. The Components Engineer will lead the selection, qualification and approval of new COTS and custom electronic and electromechanical components.

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for selection, qualification and approval of new COTS, custom electronic, and electromechanical components. Components include passives, actives, motors, servos, sensors, encoders, cables, connectors, image sensors, slip-rings, lasers, lenses, antennas, microcontrollers, memory, accelerometers, gyros, etc.

  • Reviews and approves new part requests from engineers or suppliers

  • Maintains integrity of parts data in the internal Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool.

  • Assists Product Engineering and Supply Chain teams to find alternate suppliers and replacements for long lead, EOL and obsolete components.

  • Drives Component Standardization across family of system platforms.

  • Generates specifications for all new custom component parts and creates associated source control drawings and specification control drawings.

  • Assists Quality and Product Engineering teams in support of failure mode analysis, addressing component quality complaints, and working closely with component manufacturers to ensure corrective actions are implemented.

  • Assists design engineers in the selection of electrical parts that best fit their requirements.

  • Perform proactive Bill of Materials (BOM) lifecycle analysis to reduce risk of supply chain gaps due to component obsolescence or lead time issues

  • Participates in design reviews for the purpose of component selection and standardization

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required or equivalent combination of experience and education

  • Minimum 5 - 8 years' experience in Component Engineering

  • Extensive design and component supplier experience

  • Experienced in supporting sub-system level requirement generation in conjunction with senior engineers

Preferred Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • RF experience is preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding of root cause analysis methods

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering disciplines

  • Demonstrates effective presentation skills for internal reviews

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office and other office productivity tools

  • Demonstrates problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to clearly communicate with a diversified audience

  • Experience with engineering support in a production environment

  • Understanding of root cause analysis methods.

  • Good design and component supplier experience.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and able to work well with others across disciplines

  • Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties

  • Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives

  • Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past work products

  • Is committed to learning from mistakes and driven to improve and enhance performance of oneself, others, and the company

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an office and production environment (Constant)

  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard

The salary range for this role is:

$89,630 - $127,050
