Trinity Health Patient Safety Attendant-Emergency Department in Silver Spring, Maryland

Description:

General Summary:

Maintains safety and security of patients at all times by assisting nursing staff in the monitoring of patients on emergency petition, with mental health conditions, and/or behavioral issues. Assists in providing a safe environment for fall prone, confused, and/or cognitively impaired patients. Communicates and collaborates with care team members to support the provision of safe, high-quality health care. All duties described will be carried out under the direction, discretion, and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary. Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.

Minimum licensure/certification required (if applicable):

Nursing assistant certification preferred

BLS/CPR certification required

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience in an acute healthcare facility preferred. Possesses a broad practical understanding of life experience and the ability to relate to individuals with behavioral health disorders. Ability to successfully complete required training and demonstrate associated knowledge and skills. Computer and audiovisual skills using various applications and technologies: Internet, email, word processing, wireless phone, electronic medical record. Ability to work in a high-stress environment. Effectively read, speak, write, compose and comprehend English. Effective eye and hand coordination. Effective problem-solving skills. Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize. Ability to work well and effectively communicate with individuals and teams.

Working Conditions:

General: Must be able to independently perform essential job functions.

Physical Requirements : Must be able to independently: (a) lift patients/patient care equipment up to 35 pounds, (b) push, pull, and move patients and patient care equipment, (c) bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel, (d) utilize a computer for periods of time throughout the shift, (e) perform fine motor skills both upper extremities.

Visual Acuity : The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly at distances close to the eyes.

Auditory Acuity: Must be able to identify and distinguish auditory alarms in noisy environments.

Environmental Conditions : The worker is subject to hazards associated with a hospital environment.
