WorkSource Montgomery, Inc. (WSM) is a nonprofit organization and fiduciary agent for Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act funding in Montgomery County. The non-profit organization operates the American Job Centers in Wheaton and Germantown and provides employment services to county residents who are unemployed or underemployed. Additionally, WSM engages employers in various industries throughout the county to ensure that their workforce needs are being met.

Position Overview:

The Out of School Youth Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting and empowering young adults ages 16-24 with enrollment and coordination within the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) Work Experience (WEX) based program. The coordinator role will be the first point of contact for clients interested in WIOA Young Adult program. The coordinator ensures that eligibility and case management referrals are both timely and accurate. This role will have frequent communication with clients interested in the program. The coordinator will be responsible for documentation within Maryland Workforce Exchange as well as any internal systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates information and other intake sessions with potential participants.
  • Establish and maintain the system for referrals and follow-up.
  • Answer telephone and walk-in inquiries about the program and refer appropriately.
  • Maintain young adult WEX hours during programming.
  • Communicate with clients and Work Experience sites.
  • Conduct intake assessments and eligibility determinations for participants according to WIOA guidelines.
  • Document all interactions within Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE).
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to provide a range of services and accept referrals.
  • Represent WSM/LYFE program at community functions and initiatives to promote community awareness and recruitment for the program.
  • Outreach via phone and email to potential enrollees and others as needed.
  • Attends conferences, staff meetings and WSM functions as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong administrative skills and organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively internally within the organization and with community partners.
  • Commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in youth services.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Interest and/or experience in working with young people.

Education and Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
  • Commitment to outstanding service delivery, teamwork, and client outcomes
  • Knowledge and understanding of WIOA preferred.
  • Any offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of WSM background screenings.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

Status:Full Time - In person

Location:This position will be based out of Montgomery College, East County campus and Wheaton American Job Center, with possibility of travel to Germantown American Job Center.
